"Notice" Banners on right taking up space

Hi all,

I have noticed that we currently have two 'Notice' banners on right side of the page.
One is the Melbourne meetup, other one is 7th anniversary. This in turn leads to the New Deals part being pushed furthur down the page.

I feel that the banners should have a close/minimize button, so if you have read it or it doesn't apply to you, you can minimize it.

Apologies if this has been discussed before. Couldn't find a reference anywhere.

Cheers

  • Good idea. On my work laptop, the 2nd ad covers the top part of the New Deals section.

    • Exactly. I have a 16:10 24" monitor and have to scroll down if if have to get to the new deals.
It would be so much better if you can look at both the front-page deals and new deals in one screen !

How do we bring this to the mods/decision maker's attention ?

  • The "ads" on the sidebar are actually items that we want to bring attention to the community. We rarely have two items there, but it just happens that at the moment one is running until this Friday (Melbourne Meetup) and another one until this Sunday (OzBargain Birthday Comp). They will be gone by next week (or be replaced by something else)

    • I am not saying not to put them there.
Just that maybe you could put a small minimize button on there, so once the user has read it, or it is not relevant to them, they can minimize it.
For eg. With the Melbourne meet, the whole of Australia sees it on their screen all the time ….

I'm here for them DEALSSSSS, Scotty !
      That's all !

      • Agree it would be good to have a minimise button. I have seen these a lot of times now!
