Best Travel Cards for my next holiday

Hi All,

I will be brief. I will be going on a holiday at the end of the year to the US. Currently I have a 28 Degrees MasterCard and am aware of the new rules that apply after Jan 1. I want to be able to pull out cash from an ATM overseas without having to pay a bucket load of fees and get relatively good rates also.

I have heard about the OzForex prepaid travel card and it all seems good. Anyone else heard anything about it?

I am aware that citybank offers something simular also.

Thanks peeps,

  • If you are travelling, consider amex travellers cheques.

They are much safer, and very very quickly replaced (guaranteed under 24 hours anywhere in the world) in the event of loss or theft unlike cards. They come with extra services too like passport replacements services.

Any good hotel will let you cash the cheque at reception with no fees in addition to any bank, so they can be more convenient. The only downside the travellers cheques is that they are only denominated in certain currencies, but of course, USD is one of them.

So fee wise no atm fees, no cashing fees and still the most secure form of travel money. Trust me, don't rely on cards, if you loose your card first day, sure you might be able to get it cancelled fine, but getting the money you need to continue to enjoy your trip could be a nightmare.

  • Citibank Plus Account for ATM cash overseas looks to be best option from 1 Jan.

  • +1

Yep - best set-up seems to be 28 degrees for credit purchases and Citibank Visa debit for ATM withdrawals.
I used this 6 months ago in the States and it worked a treat.

  • Analysis released just this week shows OzForex the best value out of those compared:
