Proud? Don't you mean the obscenely rich home owner?

My shack looks just fine from Google Earth, Nearmap or SIX Viewer.

    • +1

      need link for proof

  • you could buy a joy flight that would take you over your house and one of the compact system cameras deals off here for the same sort of money

  • Competing with something free with no additional value is pretty pointless isnt it? how did you do your business case? as the above said, Google Earth, Nearmap SIX viewer has provided such service for free?

    • +3

You can't use the imagery from those providers for commercial purposes without paying a licensing fee, and many of those providers only provide low resolution, non-customised images for free (for personal use).

And sure, you can always stick a camera on a drone and DIY, but not everyone has the time, technical know-how, or willingness to deal with public liability issues.

It's probably a bit silly to market this deal to "proud home owners", but there certainty is a market for high quality aerial photography. Getting stuck into the rep about their "business case" is a bit harsh, I think.

      • Thanks Electronictomato you got in before me on this.

We do get many requests at this time of year for Christmas gifts.

On the subject of quality please have a look at some sample shoots you can download from here http://www.aerialimpressions.com/PDFgallery.htm
You will see that the images are somewhat better than all of thise providers mentioned.
We also give away any copyright on the photos so they are free to use for any purpose.

        Cheers

        Darren

    • You cant sell a million dollar house with google earth shots

      • You can if you own the satellites…

  • nearmap is certainly no longer free :(

    • Depends where you work. As a proud shack owner I can still get high res images for my wall.

Here, shot with a small drone. Expensive helicopters no longer required.

Gopro attached to a helium ballon works just fine..

    • +1

      Dealayed

Yes a good idea but the reason Canon invented a 5D Mk3 and L series lenses is because the quality is far better.

I would however love to see the shots you have taken with the balloon.

Also the dones are highly restricted for use over populated areas due to them crashing into houses etc.

      Cheers

      • Also the dones are highly restricted for use over populated areas

        So are low flying aircraft…

        • Yes we fly down to the minimum allowed which is 1000 feet above ground

          Darren

        • -5

which is 1000 feet above ground

Then you are probably breaking the law…

You are required to fly above 1000 feet as measured from the highest point of the terrain, and any object on it, within a radius of 600 metres…

I assume you have a flying licence ???

Rep, meet JV. He's kind of the police around here…

        • +1

          Thanks JV
The regulations state (from your link)
"The pilot in command of an aircraft must not fly the aircraft over any city, town or populous area at a height lower than 1,000 feet". so we can stay at 1000 but not below it .
We are usually around 1200 for a safety margin.
And yes the pilot has to have a flying licence.

          Cheers

so we can stay at 1000 but not below it .

read section (2) which defines from where the height is measured…

The 1000 feet is from the highest point in the terrain, including objects… and not from the ground as you stated above…

          JV

I think you are splitting hairs here. Perhaps I should have said approx 1000 feet.

Most of the areas we fly in are above houses which are usually less than 30 feet high . So our 200 feet safety margin keeps us well clear of breaking the law. If the terrain is undulating we incease this margin.
Over the cities we are in controlled airspace where air traffic control tells us which height to fly at.
The Cessna travels at 200km/h which covers that 600m mentioned in around 33 seconds so of course we have to stay that height over the highest terrain in a larger radius than the 600m.

15 years of flying and over 6000 flying hours in 5 countries and I have yet to break any law.

Thank you however for bringing this up

          Cheers

          Darren

Neg for SPAM this deal and all the email unsolicited they have sent to every email address over and over again.

Anything that can be completed with substandard quality using cheaper tools will always get no votes from ozbargainers

"I can jump really high and draw my own building for cheaper"

    • +1

I don't think that's true. Most Ozbargainers are after quality at a reasonable price.

Throw your camera in the air, like you just don't care…

  • How do you fly at a low enough level to photograph a residential area?

    • +4

      I think for

Plane: Reduce throttle and push control stick forward to point nose down
      Helicopter: Lower the collective

      • We can fly down to 1000 feet above a residential area and can zoom into an area the size of a house with a 300mm lens

To get there just do what pmpupsinep said.

        Darren
