console style controller for pc games?

Ok, so I play keyboard and mouse style, but thinking of getting some cheap controllers and cheap local multiplayer games for playing with mates through the tv.

Internet seems to say the only thing that works is an xbox controller.

What does ozbargain think? Anyone tried the cheap eBay controllers etc? Or phone apps as controllers? Appreciate thoughts and recommendations.

Also, what are good local multiplayer games, thinking probably cart racers and 2d fighters probably.

Ps don't want to spend 100 bucks to play 5 buck games. Will still use keyboard and mouse for proper games.

Cheers,
MrDixit.

    Try something like these?

    • Thanks for this, I'll see if anyone got any controllers working - maybe some of these and an emulator is the way to go. It sounds like they won't work with steam games.

xbox360 controller and wireless usb dongle

    the end

    • especially since I imagine a lot of people will be selling off old controllers for cheap.

  • Most games these days only work with xbox 360 controllers or compatible. I use a PS3 controller but I need to run it in emulation mode and all the on screen prompts don't match my controller.

You should be able to pick up any third party 360 controller, but personally I'd consider a Logitech F310 for something which should be very nice to use (but no feedback and corded).

    • Cool, want sure how (if) third party ones would work

  • Logitech F710: wireless + rumble, quite pricey atm though.

At best sale it was 2 for $55 I heard
