What is the best plan for Optus?

My son has just upgraded his phone and swiched to Telstra for better coverage. His Optus old plan has 1 month left and before I just let it expire I wonder if there are any really good Optus deals out there, I have my own Iphone 4s so do not need a new phone, just a plan

  • 1) Presumably he ported out his number, so he probably paid a termination fee to Optus (ie the outstanding month) and the contract is now terminated.
    2) Optus resellers offer much better value than Optus direct.

  • www.liveconnected.com.au & vaya.net.au are both owned by the same company, i would go LC as they offer per kb for data, while vaya do per mb! The $20 caps with $650/unlimited sms & 1.5gb are awesome value and they use the OPTUS network (but are not owned by optus. Aldi mobile $35 and BOOST mobile $40 are on Telstra 3G (resellers)

12 month plan on telechoice (telstra 3G reseller) http://www.telechoice.com.au/kogan-offers , the $20 cap is pretty good and will do most people too… <IM ON THIS MYSELF

Optus direct deals this xmas are a bit light on… but the SIM ONLY offers above rock!

  • No optus deals…

  • No the contract does not end for 2 more months, so I using the phone until it ends, optus are sending the usual free upgrade messages every week as of course they do not want to loose a customer and I have his number as he was not so fussed about getting a new one. It is $100 a month and comes with data and free ebay facebook twitter etc. I have found that as much as I hate facebook and all it stands for it is a great way to sell stuff (compared to ebay) so I am using that part often. So it sounds like I should let the plan end??

    • Pretty much..
You can get a similar deal in terms of calls and data value from Vaya for less than $50/month*… Same network, much better value!
*you're quite likely to find that their $18/month plan is more than sufficient for your needs… ($650 calls/text and 1.5Gb data)
