Cheapest way to get from Sydney to Bega?

Hey guys,
Needing to travel to Bega on the 16th and returning on the 21st, from Sydney. I'm assuming bus is the best bet, but how do i get the cheapest fare? I am a student with a valid concession card.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Just happens to be true also.

  • Not much room for bargaining other than claiming the student concession I think. Looks like https://www.premierms.com.au is the one you want.

    • Thanks, I think these are the people i will go with. Does $57 each way sound reasonable? Its cheaper than driving, (for me anyway!).

        • Booked about an hour before you posted for $17 more each way.. Damn. Wonder if i can get a full refund even though their T&C's state only half. Probably not hey.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Thanks anyway!
Turns out even with the cancellation fee it works out $5~ cheaper, plus the timetable works better. May go with them after all…

  • I used to catch the train to Canberra then bus down to Bega. I can't remember why I did it that way, maybe it was cheaper? Check it out just in case. Other wise bus with student concession… or follow biozet's advice…. but no matter what, don't forget the rules of the road.

    • I think bus to Canberra then train was also listed when I did a search. There are some cheaper bus runs to Canberra due to more customers. One problem is that the train station in Canberra is in the middle of nowhere, and you'd have waiting time.

  • Don't suppose you are a student with a pension card as well?

Free travel: NSW/ACT Pensioner Concession Card holders entitled to a combined total of four single or two return free journeys on NSW TrainLink Regional services or Great Southern Rail services within NSW each calendar year (booking fees apply with NSW Trains for First Class Travel). Card holders from other Australian states and territories are entitled to a half fare.

    • Sadly, no i am not :(

  • 1) Order something random from the Good Guys with the delivery address in Bega.
    2) Hope it gets allocated to a Sydney store - Auburn seems likely.
    3) Ring the allocated store and ask if you can ride with the delivery man.

    Just don't order a game, obviously :)

very clever but that's not how it works, items are packed, picked up by a truck, truck goes to the depot, drops it off, it gets sorted and then heads to its destination so in this case, it wont work

your better off shaving your leg and lifting up your skirt and maybe try catch the attention of a horny truck driver.

      Haha, this seems excessive..

I've seen similar done before. Hard to get a cab where we were (I was driving anyway) but a guy goes into the pizza joint and asks if he can order a home delivered pizza, but ride along with the driver for a few bucks. Cheaper than a taxi and dinner thrown in to boot. Driver wins, passenger wins, pizza place wins.

  • If you book early, greyhound will give you a discount, it cost me $35 to go from Liverpool to Canberra.

    • I dont think greyhound goes to bega.

  • Train to Nowra and then the bus (Premier) to Bega is the easiest cheap way but I think it is cheaper to take the bus the whole way.

    • Ended up just taking the bus from Sydney, but thanks :)

  • what about something like rideshare.. there's a few different sites.

    www.jayride.com.au

    http://www.coseats.com/

  • Buy a reasonable, cheap car, cheap to run. Offer lifts down the coast if they chip in for petrol etc. Clean up car upon arrival and re-sell at a small profit :P I've actually bought cars in Melbourne and come back to Tassie and sold them on and made good profit that way :)

  • Thanks guys, ended up just booking a bus trip.

Careful, with a name like yours, you may never leave!

  • just wonder if anyone has used jayride or coseats? I often drive to the central coast from Southern Highlands area, it may well be a few $$ toward the petrol cost? Anyone have any stories?

  • are you going to bega to make cheese?
