Posted for anyone really desperate for a PS4 before xmas who is sitting on a ton of unused frequent flyer points, & doesn't mind the outrageous redemption rate for this offer.

The Qantas store also sells $1000 gift cards for David Jones, Myer, JB Hifi, etc at around 140,000 FF points. So 146,000 points for a $600 PS4 bundle is way above the normal mark.

People are paying crazy prices on eBay though. If you have stacks of FF points to throw away?

In my opinion, the best way to spend FF points is on vouchers.

Prices for "most" products sold via FF are usually inflated (or are listed at RRP) and usually have a street price of significantly less than what is advertised.

We usually get supermarket or fuel vouchers. Things that we are guaranteed to use.

My thoughts: use your FF points to buy vouchers. Take the money saved at the supermarket and put it towards the product of your choice…

  • I actually find the whole "Spend 87,000 and $445" to get this bundle hilarious… Knowing full well the RRP for the PS4 itself is round $550(?) plus roughly $100 for the game and 87,000 points translates to $87,000 going by what my AMEX rate is ($1 to 1 point)

you would be better off exchanging the points for giftcards and using them to buy a ps4

      14,500 points for $100 JB gift cards…so…$1000 for a PS4 bundle?

      • Haha, i heard of overcharge, but lolololol

  • I would personally never redeem points for items like this. Always works out better to get the gift cards.

Although with the Qantas points, I've found one of the best uses is Business or First Class upgrades :)

  • Qantas store also selling Ipad Air Wifi. 128GB model costs 145,000 FF points.

Redeeming FF points for $1000 in gift vouchers costs as follows: Harvey Norman, 139,100 points, DJs 140,000 points, Myer 149,600 points, JB Hifi 149,600 points, Big W 149,200 points.

Apple price for 128 GB model is $899. So gap only about $100 buying an Ipad Air Wifi 128GB direct from Qantas store, over using your FF points to buy store gift cards & purchasing in-store at RRP. Considering you are paying with Reward Points not a bad price gap.

Also selling Iphone 5S. 16GB for 146,00 FF points. $869 at Apple store.

Perhaps the Qantas Store points offer on the PS4 is sooooo bad because no-one else in Australia has stock.

  • LOL Qantas thinks that we're incapable of computing maths.

  • Just note that this Qantas stores PS4 bundle includes an extra controller and the Playstation camera. So yeah, still not worth it, but its a little better :D

  • how can I use my emirates ff points on this?

Qantas are partners with EK atm.

  • I'm not sure if anyone has checked recently, but the PS4 has almost halved its price for the PS4 console on the Frequent Flyer store, which actually makes it around the $540 (comparing to Big W gift cards). Not only this, but the postage date quotes on the website "Product will be shipped by or on the 23 January. Skip the queues in store - place your order now!", so you can get one in earlier than planned b the rest of the retailers.
