Cheap side mirror glass replacement - Adelaide?

Hey all,

Clipped a bin on the kerbside today and smashed the glasses on the left hand side mirror. Fuuuuu! The actual housing seems fine, but the glass on the backing plate smashed out. Anyone got any suggestions? Looking to do a cheap replacement. Was thinking of using that mirror adhesive contact stuff, but couldn't find any. Tried unsuccessfully to cut my own from an old bathroom cabinet mirror tracing the plating, but seem to screw it up at every turn. Seems the next best thing is to get some cut.

Anyone got any suggestion? I contacted Marion glass, and they said around $45. Sound right? I have no experience with this stuff. Any other places I should try? I'm on Anzac highway, about halfway between Glenelg and the city. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

  • Perhaps you should try u-pull it up at lonsdale

  • Maybe if you told us the car type and model it would help,

Best bet is a wrecker, they're not that expensive, have you looked at autobarn, I think they may have "generic" replacement mirrors http://www.autobarn.com.au/drive-mirror-lens-7-x-10-replacme… or for an older car the complete door mirror http://www.autobarn.com.au/drive-mirror-door-mount-square-ch…

    Hope this is helpful

  • Is that $45 for them to fit it or just supply? If it includes fitting, I'd jump on it… Otherwise, when I did this, I replaced the entire mirror, including housing with a replacement… depends on the make/model of car as to how expensive these can be (and shop around, I had a wrecker tell me that my mirror was "rare"— it was for an EA falcon… not quite rare)…
