Difference in price for cracked iPhone screen repair between Apple store and local shopping centre repair shop?

As per title just wondering if anyone knows how much apple charge to repair their iphone screens, compared to what they charge in the local shopping mall… Any advice. Do the apple store even do screen replacements or just replace the whole phone??

  • i could be wrong but i think apple usually replace your phone for somewhere around $270 whereas the shopping centre repair shops usually fix the screen for around $70-100.

My iphone 4 screen cracked a few months ago and i ordered the parts (including tools) to fix it myself off ebay for about $40. It takes about 60min to do and it's honestly not that hard since there's heaps of youtube videos showing you how to do it…

  • Estimated $6 billion used on iPhone repairs. A recent study implies that $5.9 billion has possibly been used on iPhone fixes since the original was released in 2007. The phones are incredibly stylish, but are known to be delicate and somewhat of a fussbudget, also as costly to repair.

  • I was expecting to have to leave it with them overnight, but they fixed it for me in the shopping centre in under half an hour! Cost $150 but very convenient :)

The repair shops usually use 3rd party screens which are inferior in quality to the original apple ones. Apple used to replace the entire phone for any problem but now they do actual repairs for repairable phones eg. screen, buttons, battery etc. Screens as I remember should be around the $150 mark. Repair stores can range from $70-$120.

Like Hot Chocolate said, it's much better to order the parts from Ebay and do the repair yourself if you're capable.

  • iPhone 3GS screen $129.
iPhone 4 and 4S cannot have screen replaced so whole unit replacement at $179 and $229 respectively.
iPhone 5 is $179 to replace screen.
iPhone 5C and 5S are whole unit replacements at $329.

iPhone 4 and 4s can have the screens replaced, I have replaced 2 cracked screens myself. If you are specifically talking about at an Apple store, I have no knowledge, but it is a 15 minute job.

      • I am aware that they can be replaced. I was specifically giving costs and procedures for the Apple Store.

I should also add that getting repairs done by a third party or doing it yourself invalidates your warranty and any future replacement even at cost.

  • I had an iPad screen replaced in a market store — it was cheaper than Apple, but the result has been a screen that doesn't respond to touch as it did when new — the tablet is it now useless for drawing apps and dragging movements don't work in some directions. so really not an economic option, now without warranty, Apple won't touch it.

  • I have great recommendation, if someone wants to fix their apple devices,
