Building your own PC

Hi guys

I am interested in building a new system for gaming

Any one have any advice or suggestions where to go to?

MSY I used previously and would like to go with someone else this time.

What you guys think about the blow?

  • Slightly confused - are you asking about Scorptec as a company, about their pre-built systems, or one of the build specs from their list?

Have you built your own system before?

    • Sounds like he has built before, but wants an alternative to MSY for parts supply and is asking for opinions on Scorptec.

      • That's what I initially thought, but then why link to the Scorptek pre-built systems page? And why ask "pricewise"? - if it's only price then StaticICE is the place to ask :)

  • Pricewise, Scorptec and PCCG are almost head to head. Service wise, PCCG is the top for me. The amount of bubble wrap they use to make sure your stuff gets to you in one piece is ridiculous and exactly what a customer would want.

For finding the best prices, use www.staticice.com.au and http://au.pcpartpicker.com
Also keep an eye out for Amazon's deals as well as the regular deals that are posted here by ShoppingExpress. They do fantastic deals and their REP is a legend to deal with. Free shipping most of the time.

Another place to watch is www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales

Mainly focused on US targeted deals but the Amazon deals are quite often applicable to Aussies too.

I find Scorptec are a few dollars more, but their service is excellent. That said I always drop into a store which is nearby.

  • Scorptec and PCCG are the only two PC gear sites I deal with. They're both very good to deal with and reliable.

Might I recommend Whirlpool's PC suggestions pages here: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs

Also, Tomshardware.com do two regular monthly articles "best CPU for the money" and "best Graphics cards for the money" which break it down by price range. Well worth checking out.

I've been shopping at UMART a lot recently. Price is competitve, some parts from MSY is cheaper but I can't be arsed driving to Auburn and having to wait in line, then told the item is out of stock -_-.
