Audiophile Earphones for Motorcycles Riders and for general use - Noise Guard/ Ear Mold

When I had a motorcycle a few years ago I was the owner of A pair of custom fitted earphones from ‘Earmold’ -$250 http://www.earmold.com.au/Motorcycle-Related-Products/Stereo….

They were great with a motorcycle helmet but I also loved using them just as my regular earphones on the train etc, although they did have a few negatives, such as they were not in ear amplifiers so sound quality not as good as a great pair of regular in-ear earphones.

After losing my Sony’s and destroying a variety of cheaper earphones I find myself really tired of poor build quality and the imperfect fit of many in-ear earphones. Although I don’t have a motorcycle at the moment, I hope to have another one in the next few years I find myself dreaming about having another custom fit pair of tough durable and top audio earphones that will last and be extremely comfortable.

However in general they are very expensive and I wanted to know if anyone has used some of the brands I mention below and whether or not they believe they represent good value especially when the sound quality is always going to be less than the top of the line Sony/Shure/Westone earphones which are also cheaper.

I am tempted by the noise guard Moto Dual but finding it hard to justify the price tag even though they will get a lot of use and hopefully even more so when I get a motorcycle again.

At the top of the list is:

Noise guard - Moto Dual - $635
- http://www.noiseguard.com.au/motorcycle/motorcyclepro-racing…

“Dual pro true balanced armature audio drivers encased by moulds directly into ears for ultimate in-ear-monitor stage quality sound production.”

Big Air - $550 (USA)
- http://bigearinc.com/all-products/motorcycle-ear plugs#!/~/product/category=2415853&id=9556543

Noise Guard – Moto - $435
http://www.noiseguard.com.au/

Single audio-driver encased in the silicon mold, so no hollow tubing. I assume this will have good sound quality but much less than the Moto Dual.

Earmold -$250 http://www.earmold.com.au/Motorcycle-Related-Products/Stereo….
- Dual balanced armature drivers (Not in the silicon)

  • Can't help on which to pick, but curious if the 'in ear' phones, particularly moulded, blocked out too much ambient noise? I've ridden road bikes for many years and tried plugs (not earphones) once and couldn't get used to the lack of awareness around me.

I've got a Shark helmet that supports headphones that attach to the helmet. Have you tried this?

    • Some may consider them dangerous while riding but I have found that you can still hear enough of your surroundings to be aware of what is going on. Stopping the wind noise and from falling asleep on on long rides was a help as well. I haven't heard about the helmet you have mentioned. I will take a look.
