New Deals RSS feed broken

Hey guys.

I use Feedly to stream an RSS feed from the New Deals page (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/feed) to keep up with what's going on around here. Looked first thing this morning, and am seeing that the latest new deal was posted Monday, 9 December 2013 10:43 PM. This is obviously incorrect as I can clearly see a multitude of postings beyond that date/time by browsing the site!

I've checked the main page RSS feed (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/feed) and it's working just fine, so something quirky's going on specifically with the New Deals RSS feed.

Is this something any of you awesome mods can have a look into please?

Thanks very much in advance!

Best regards,
FG.

The new deals feed is going through Google's FeedBurner, which is pretty broken at the moment. You should now be able to fetch the feed directly from OzBargain (bypassing FeedBurner).

    • Awesome scotty, thanks so much for your insanely prompt help! Really appreciate everything you do here on the 'Bargain. Many thanks!

    • Ah man, now Feedly's not working properly. Viewing the new RSS URL in a browser is fine and shows the new posts, but viewing it through Feedly is still frozen at last night. Ugh…

    • How do you grab the feed directly from OzB instead of via Feedburner.

      How is the link different?

This is the last feed I got, and still the last to show every time I try to add it

  • My feed is new deal feed is broken as well - wonder if it has anything to do with the site moving to https

    • That's a thought… though, the main feed is still perfectly fine.

I am still trying to fix the feed issue. It turns out that

    • FeedBurner does not accept HTTPS RSS feeds. Yes! A product from the biggest web company in the world does not like RSS + SSL!
    • Feedly does not refresh or follow the redirect, nor does it allow me to add the HTTPS version of the feed.

The solution for now is setting up a proxy on HTTP (not HTTPS) just for FeedBurner to get the feed. FeedBurner is now happy and it appears Feedly has fixed itself as well.

  • I just got a feed of 10 posts.

  • That fixed it - sounds like pretty poor support by Feedburner.

  • Yeah, we're back! scotty, you're a legend. Thanks very much for your hard work!

  • Hey scotty… it looks like it's broken again on the Feedly side. I don't fully understand what you did to fix it last time (proxies and such) but I wonder what's going on now?

Feedly is now frozen at the New Deal at 6:26pm Saturday… the RSPCA NSW Half Price Adoptions.

Any chance you could please have a squiz scotty when you've got a moment? Thanks heaps!

    • When I look at it (here's the link to New Deals' feed on Feedly), the RSPCA NSW Half Price offer was listed under "Featured". Under "Today" the last one (currently) is the Pizza Hut deal which is still about 4 hours late.

      • I'm not seeing the 'Featured' style display; I think it's because I'm constantly doing a 'Mark All As Read' once I've glanced over everything each time.

In any case, a bunch of New Deals have only now just streamed through Feedly. But there's a whole bracket of posts that are missing between now and 4 hours ago. Very weird…

        • FeedBurner is showing the latest deals so it would be Feedly that hasn't caught up with the feed.

        • Gotcha—thanks a lot of looking into it scotty, I really appreciate your help!

  • Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but is the new deals rss feed stuffed? I'm getting a malformed feed error.

    • What RSS client are you using? No issue here…

    • I was getting 407 errors the last few days with intermittent updates coming through. Looks like I was still using the http link, updating to https fixed my issue
