Small Bump on Motorcycle

The other day someone had rear-ended me and afterwards there did not appear to be any apparent damage. However, he mentioned "is your tyre okay", so I had decided to check the PSI's and it was at 25 when the norm is 42. I re-pumped it up at a servo and left it for two days. When I checked yesterday, the PSI was down to 30, it had lost 12 PSI in two days. For not much use of the bike I'd think that is a lot of PSI to be missing.

Anyways, I want to know how likely is it that his bump caused a puncture in my tyre? The speed was fairly slow but I sure felt the bump when riding the bike.

Thanks :)

I think it is unlikely. Unless you wore down a huge patch from the type dragging which would be easily visible.

I'll bet its your wheel, not the tyre, If the car hit it hard enough it may have a dent / bend allowing it to leak air

If so it would usually need replacement, but you should probably also check the frame and other parts to make sure they are still straight

  • Yeah, nevermind.
It was not the accident, I had a much closer inspection of the wheel and found a massive nail wedged in the middle of my tyre -.-

It's been quoted $60 patch tomorrow.

    Thanks anyways :)

  • Hi
Just a word of caution here, if the bike is a larger more powerful type that gets a bit of stick from time to time, I'd caution against a patch, from exp on a 900cc sports bike some years ago. hard accelleration and such ( weight if doubling) can tear the edges of the patch and run the risk of fast deflation.

Your choice based on finances I guess, but for piece of mind consider a new tyre, we'd hate to hear you're laid up in hospital just to save a few dollars

    Blessings for safe riding

    • I see, thanks.
I'll take that into consideration for future!
