IPAD Mini with or Without a Retina

Fellow Ozbargainites

I am looking at getting my wife an iPad Mini for xmas and am not yet decided on whether to get the Retina version or the standard version.

What are your thoughts and where is the best retail store to bargain from?

cheers,

  • The Retina screen is a massive improvement. I suggest to buy it from the Apple store, because I went through three of them each with a dead pixel before finally getting one that was OK. I price matched Big W $468 for the 16gb wifi and also bought the smart case for $89.

    • i didn't realise Apple would price match. thanks for that.

  • Agree with nubzy on the screen being a massive improvement but as well as that the standard mini only has the A5 chip, but when you move to the retina you get the A7 (and the M7), which will be much faster and you will certainly notice the difference massively as soon as iOS 8 comes out (assuming that's what's next). I have an iPad 2 and iOS 7 hit that pretty hard and has made it dramatically slower, so while there may not be too much difference initially, in the long run the difference will be immense.

    • iPad 2 also has the A5 chip, same as standard mini, and this is slowing down a lot.
      Comparison

      • Yeah, the A7 is like a 5 times improvement over the A5.

I would go for an retina iPad mini too.

  • so BigW in Brisbane done have any in stock. JBHifi are not displaying the Mini Retina on their website and Tricky Dicky apparently have a sale starting tomorrow selling it for the same price as the Apple Store.

Will Apple come to the party with discounts on cases etc?
