What to use $20 iTunes Gift Card on?

I don't really use my iPhone 5 for much except to browse web, whatsapp, facebook and youtube. Won a $20 iTunes gift card but no idea what to spend it on.

Any ideas?

  • Sell it!

if you don't know what to buy then you don't need it.

  • Gift some popular apps/music/movies to people for Christmas

I'd say cut out the middle man and just gift the whole card.

I'd consider buying metroview GPS (its an offline GPS so doesnt need data connection unless you want traffic updates etc).

its about $15 and covers Australia and NZ. Pretty good value compared to other GPS apps and quite capable.

    • All Nokia Lumias have offline maps, for most of the world. Free.

Insert obligatory "I like chocolate" comment here.

Acinod has an iPhone not a Nokia. But yeah, Nokia very nicely includes a free GPS which is a great bonus for those with those phones (we have an old Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone that also had free GPS several years back now). Samsung also offer Navigon or something free with my wife's Galaxy S2. So Apple is a bit tight when it comes to offering a free GPS, I dont think they really care though given their current market share. Perhaps if their share drops considerably they will magically offer something for nothing and will tout it as the greatest feature since sliced beds (sliced beds are awesome in their own right).

          It's good to google.

        • You make a good point but Apple maps is still not a completely offline GPS in the true sense of the word (even though it offers offline caching for quite a wide area as I understand it). I don't believe for instance that you can preload a whole country like the USA for offline navigation (if this is possible then I'd like to know as that would be pretty cool).

With a true offline GPS app, you dont have to worry about whether your maps are cached for your roadtrip if you dont have a data connection whilst travelling.

  • Oh I'm going New York soon, think there'll be an app for offline navigation there?

    • There is an app called City Maps 2GO that is currently free for a limited time (probably only another day or two is my guess), it should give you offline maps for new york, although I dont think its like a standard navigation GPS so perhaps not the best for driving. Grab it whilst free.

There are quite a few other GPS apps for iOS though that will cover the USA, which range from free to quite pricey ($50 or more I think for TomTom for instance). Have a look at http://www.informationweek.com/location-services/top-gps-app…?

Bear in mind that many apps will go on sale the week before xmas as devs try to game the appstore rankings to feature their apps highly for the people getting new ios devices for xmas.

I spent my cards on television shows I couldn't download elsewhere.

I'd buy TV show or magazine subscription. Or just leave it in your account until something you do want comes along.
