Anyone with a ute and experience moving a fridge want a quick buck in Sydney?

Looking to pick up a fridge and move it to my new place in Sydney on Thursday or Friday.

Pick up is in Five Dock. Delivery is in Milson's Point.

I have no problem renting a ute and doing it myself, I just have no experience moving fridges, nor do I have the cables/ropes necessary to secure the fridge in the ute.

Advice, recommendations, or (paid) volunteers welcome! Thanks!

  • I'd suggest letting people know area you are in/moving to.

Instead of a ute, if you have a tow bar, why not hire a trailer? Either a 6x4 with sides or a furniture trailer will do, and Kennards have them fairly cheap. I know as I rang them the other day for myself, as I've got to do a pick up and delivery of fridge and washer on Friday for my new house.

I ended up not needing to hire as my old man has a friend with one, which we are borrowing.

I also could assist if you are close by, as long as times don't conflict with my house move and unpack and Christmas.

    • Thanks for the help, mate. Great reply.

Fridge pick-up is in Five Dock, delivery in Milson's Point.

Whereabouts is your move taking place? Thanks!

PS. I am car-less, period. So no tow bar either.

      • I am in Sutherland Shire, so bit far from me, otherwise I'd volunteer.

I see why the ute, and fairly good option.

Just thought, as I did a quick Google and for ~$45-50 for 2 hours hire, surely hiring someone to do the pickup and delivery for you would be cheaper?

        • No problem!

Unfortunately those $45-50/2 hr quotes are usually followed through with once you call these guys. I've been getting some in the range of $80-130. So just exploring some other options first.

          Thanks for the help!

  • Have you tried posting at airtaskers? (Not that I have any personal experience with it.)

    • Will give it a look! Thanks!

Balmain rentals has cheap and nasty utes for hire, they should be quite local for you.

    • Right. But then I'll need cables/straps?

      • I did a fridge move with a ute and just used a heap of rope. You don't necessarily need to have specialised straps/cables

Edit: Just swing by a Bunnings to get the rope, shouldn't be too exxy

  • Give airtasker a go. Much cheaper.

    • I had look. Seems like a good way to pick up.

  • how about these guys: https://www.meemeep.com/

i've used them for large graysonline stuff.

  • free 2hour loan trailers at bunnings or masters if you buy some timber….

then return the timber for a refund because it wasn't suitable…

    • The OP doesn't have a car.

    • how about the loan bunnings vans? i've seen them as well - are they free to loan?

You know to keep the thing vertical, I hope?

    • You bet haha.

    • Oh really, I didnt know that? what happens if you dont? cant you just let it stand once delivered for a couple of hours once its delivered?

  • Ya I've heard it's really just a major problem with older fridges. When in doubt, leave the fridge unplugged for 24 hrs before and after laying it on its side.

  • Thanks all…ending up going with a guy I found on Airtasker (Thanks Neil). Price was fair, he had good reviews, and he does this as a part-time job to make some extra cash, so I'd much rather support that than these guys who re-post their ad on Gumtree every 5 minutes with deceiving free quotes.

    Cheers!

    • Cool. Do you mind me asking how much he is going to charge as a comparison?

      • Sorry for the delay!

We settled on 60 for the initial fridge move, but ended up picking up a washing machine elsewhere, so settled on 100 for the full job. Good guy and great price.
