When will the best deals for a 60-70" TV be likely to appear in the near future?

Hi guys,

I would like to get a 60-70" Tv soon, and am wondering when the best deals are likely to appear in the near future?
Would it be boxing day sales, or do you think there will be better sales after that perhaps? What are your thoughts?

Thanks guys,
Michael

I've still got a CRT haha.. I've been holding out way too long I think…

  • Watch boxing day sales man you will get the best deals on a TV then cause it's a fight between retailers for customers dollar so they put up some ridiculous deals, just make sure you sign up to sites like the good guys, dick smith, and jbhi so you will know when the boxing day deals will arrive and what you will have to pay

  • Please share any good deals found!

  • now is a good time to research which TV you want, and what your targeted price is… so you can take advantage of the deals and price matches as soon as they come up.

Hmmm do you have any idea what TV you want..

    for that size plasma????

  • Thanks for the input guys.

Well I would prefer an LCD or LED as it will use less power than a plasma, but I will also do some gaming on it, mainly BF4, so Im hoping LCD/LED will still be quite good for gaming, what do you think?

So something with good lag time would be important. But lag time is often not listed in the specs is that correct? So what is the best way to find out?

  • I believe that the smart TV is still at the beginning, so I won't make big deal on TV. Maybe you should wait for a year.

  • Im not waiting a year, i want something within the next few months. And smart TV or not doesnt really matter to me as the tv will be my pc monitor. I actually rarely watch TV

  • How big is the room your putting the tv? in because 60+ inch is bloody huge man

  • Haha yeah I know, well it is my bedroom but I tested a 55" screen in here and I could definitely handle a 60". I would like cinema experience :)

    • Yeah boi I love a cinema exp! So what brands are you after mainly man so I can keep an eye out for u?
And what's the highest price your willing to pay:)

      • I'm hoping to get a 60" samsung

  • Haha yeah Im excited for that ;). I dont mind what brand really, as long as it is a good unit and has low input lag, and is a good deal…
Thanks mate, I'd rather not pay more than $2000 if possible, hoping there will be some deals around the $1500 mark :), but Ill consider anything within reason i guess

  • Ok dude I will keep my eye out, I think you will be able to get one for around $1000.

  • These are some of the deals I've come across
Samsung 60" full hd led lcd 3d tv 100hz Advertised the good guys $1684
Lg 55" full hd led lcd smart tv 100hs advertised the good guys $1298
Lg 60" full hd led lcd tv 200hz advertised the good guys $1597
LG 55" Full hd 3d dual core led lcd tv @Jbhifi with bonus skylanders battleground upon redemption—- $1596
You can go by these prices man as these are close to the best deals atm
    I will still look though:)

  • Thanks heaps Trent I appreciate all the info!
Do you think I'd be best to only go for something with 200Hz?
And where can I find the input lag specs for tvs usually?

    • To be honest I've got a 100hz and it does fine for gaming on xbox ps3 and Nintendo wii playing all day. The specs are on the brands websites.

      • Do you think the Samsung will go down with boxing day sales?

        • Totally will
What size are u after and what type like normal or does it need smart tv ? I will keeps an eye out

        • The 60" smart TV you mentioned in your post at the good guys

        • Those 2 60" ones I don't think come with smart tv, but to be honest I've had smart tv for yrs now and it's so not worth it

  • Ok sounds good thanks mate :)

  • So whats the best way to find out what will be on at the boxing day sales? Its only 2 days away and I havent seen anything yet…

  • Hey guys the myer tv are on sale and as far as their catalogue goes here are good ones—
Lg 60" full hd led tv smart dual core with built in wifi $1799 save $500
Sony 55" 3d full hd tv with smart, 3d and wifi built in — $1499 save $350
Panasonic 50" 3d full hd tv with smart $1199 save $300
I'm sure there will be more in store but those are the best big ones in the catalogue, the other 2 are over $2000

    • Off topic but no Myer gift cards offer (10% free) like last year ?
Wonder if they will do it later
Effectively that's 10% off on sale prices

    Jbhifi goog deals

lg 60" full hd led lcd tv 200hz $1497
lg 60" full hd plasma $978

  • Dick Smith have just come out with their deals.. Trent you seem to be following it pretty closely. What seems to be the best 55-60" TV Deals under $1500? I'm getting overwhelmed by the options and specs. I know I want wifi, and i want it wall mounted so needs to be thin and light. Can you suggest 3 top recommendations? From what I've seen, Dick Smith has the best deals…

  • +1

In my opinion the best deals from dicksmith are
Sony 50" full hd led smart tv - $997
Panasnoic 50" full hd led smart tv $998
Lg 55" full hd led smart tv -$1187
Samsung 55" 3d full hd led smart tv -$1298
Panasonic 55" full hd 3d led smart tv -$1357

    • Cheers, pretty keen on the sammy.

  • If you are after a 55" LED - Pana 55ET60 for $1357 is a great deal IMO
    60" Plasma - Pana 60S60 for ~ $1300
LG have too many 55" models under $1500 - it's so confusing

    • I wouldn't go for a plasma, screen burn, heavy so you can't mount them, use a bit more power and most don't come with smart or wifi, plus it's old technology

      • +1

Plasmas in my opinion are the best TV's out there. It's not old technology as you suggest, but has continued to advance over recent years. Most recent plasmas don't have an issue with burning in. Besides, people behind TV stations and gaming consoles have become aware of burn in issues and have implemented features to prevent this from happening. I have a 55" plasma. My mate has a 60". They mount just fine. Power consumption is indeed higher, but not that significant unless you plan on watching 8+ hours of TV a day. Features such Smart TV/wifi in my opinion is just a gimmick, but most midrange plasmas will come with these features regardless. In addition, plasma offers much more accurate colour reproduction and is particularly known for having deep blacks. Unfortunate that sales of plasmas have declined because of these misconceptions and they probably won't be around for much longer.

If you're looking for a TV. I highly recommend that you pick up a Panasonic (S/ST/VT) before they go or a Samsung (f8500).

        • couldn't agree more …. but to each his own … no more Pana plasmas in 2014 … so hope to get a good deal (if stock exists! )

        • Lol i consider led as now old technology! Anything has been replaced by a better product is old in my book. Not that there is anything wrong with buying old technology but that is what it is, there might be advancements but it's still old

  • If you have a home theatre system and love playing loud music through it then definitely go for a smart tv as you can play any youtube music videos and any other videos through you tv and sound system so you don't have to buy most music just play it through youtube. Heaps fun plus you get a music video to watch at same time which gets you in the mood :)

  • What are the best buys for 60-70 inch LED/LCDs?

    • Not too many out there m8 that size on a good deal because most of them now come as the new TV'S and are around 2-4000.
The best ones I"ve seen are the lg above 60" for $1497 @ the good guys.
One thing you need to remember is that led TV's have only recently gone to 70 inch so they are mostly new models.

  • Here are a few examples of expensive tv;s from jbhifi
Panasonic 60" full hd led 3d tv for $1996
sharp 70" full hd 3d led lcd tv for $3996
sharp 60" full hd 3d led lcd tv for $1696
lg 60" full hd led lcd tv for $2096
    dicksmith—
sony 70" full hd 3d led lcd tv $3197
sony 60" full hd led lcd tv $2097
    The good guys
Samsung 60" full hd led lcd tv $1684
Lg full hd led lcd to $1996
So as you can see not too many deals on the bigger TV's man but plenty of ones around 50/55 "

    • Thanks mate, well there are few 60"s under $2000 there which i might have to consider… Do any of these places offer interest free finance on these do you know?

      • Lol yeah but I would never spend that much on a TV hehe. I guess if u got the money then yep there are some ok ones but they aren't really deals.

        • Yeh id rather not spend that much, but its what i spent on my current TV which i bought maybe 5 years ago now… so i guess its a worthwhile investment as long as it doesnt die

        • I got the first smart tv that was released and it cost me 1700 for a 28 inch Samsung!! Now I wouldn't pay anymore than $400 for a 32 inch

  • And by the way, input lag is not listed on the manufacturers websites. Input lag is not response time. Im actually having a hard time finding any input lag specs for any of these tvs which are on sale.

    • I don't see why they would tell the consumers how bad a lag problem was.
What are you actually going to use this tv for exactly?

  • For watching movies, surfing the net and playing Battlefield 4 mainly…

    • Ok well I have a Samsung, the oldest model still available series 4, I play movies from youtube, music video's through youtube, play games like goldeneye online through wii, mariokart online and I have never had a glitch with it.
Browsing is only on the newer models so if you say get a series 5 I don't think you will get browser I think they are only added to newer models, you do get stuff to use just not an actual browser where you can look up everything.

      • Sorry i meant surfing the net via my pc, Ill be using this as my pc monitor. I rarely actually watch TV…

        • Ok well I would definitely go for one of those dual core ones man

  • any thoughts on the LG 55" LA8600?

Been eyeing it off for a while, will be watching plenty of 1080 content and xbox gaming, steam big picture.

With 200hz and being the model up from the LA7400 that I have been able to find very postive reviews on, especially input lag, it seems like it would be the best TV before you get into the UHD range?

Given I can't find any reviews on it, feedback would be great?

i wouldn't careless, we haven't use our 19" crt for a while now. I wonder what happens to all the "old" crt that ppl dump for shiny useless plasma>led tv. In all and all tv is useless imo.

  • I am looking to buy a top quality 60-65 inch Smart LED LCD under $2.5K max for general home viewing with some sports and not gaming. Looking for easy to use UI and better smart / wifi integration . Appreciate your recommendations on brand and model.

    • Thanks R3XNebular ,, fantastic price for Plasma but i am after LED LCD. The room is brightly lit in the day time and fluorescent in the night; experts on the forum have recommended LED/LCD for such ambiance,

      • Look above man all the deals from stores are up above
