Will Myer Pricematch TVs?

I have a heap of myer gift vouchers to burn and I am after a TV - but their advertised prices are a joke. Anyone had any luck with myer pricematching tvs? It looks like dick smiths runs their electronics dept now - does this mean myer has all the same deals as dicksmith, but I can use my myer giftcards?

P.S. Looking for a 55" - 60" if you have any suggestions on the quality of those choices or a pricematch suggestion =)

Cheers all.

EDIT - scratch that - it was david jones that is run by DSE =) Any advice on myer would be great tho.

  • Yes, Myer will price match.

  • yes i have done that in past

  • I was in myer electronics section the other day (hyperdome store) and they had signs up saying they pricematch and that you will also get myer reward points. I didn't read the small print but it sounds promising.

  • +1

I have personally found that both David Jones and Myer have ridiculous tag prices, but are very lenient with the pricing of their goods.

Just use the usual type of passive bargaining. Print out website page with low price on it and take it to the store. Keep it in your pocket until later. Low ball them first (ie. lower than the lowest price you can find). If they refuse or offer a number higher than that in your pocket, produce the piece of paper and ask them to match it.

Really the only place that rejects this type of bargaining on a regular basis is The Good Guys, who will come up with all sorts of excuses, the most common being "we don't match sale prices". Yeah guys, that's kinda the point.

Probably the funniest time I ever did this was at a local music store (I'm a regular). I asked how low they would go on a certain item and they responded "are you going to pull out a piece of paper with a crazy number on it?" and I said "well that really depends how large your number is".

    • haha. Cool, Ill see how I do.

Looks like there are only a few 55" to 60" options they offer anyway, so i guess ill just keep a lookout for deals on those and then pricematch them when they come up.

I wonder if Sony will offer a free PSone with their tvs at some point. May be worth waiting.

      • That's only their online stock though - quite often there's a discrepancy/separate stock between the physical store and online store. I'd call around/look around and see what's in the store. Generally speaking if something is in store and not online, it'll be run-out stock and you can negotiate a cheaper price because they're more interested in clearing space than making a profit.

Also keep a look out for Panasonic Plasmas, which will drop in price real soon due to them pulling out of the Plasma market.

Also a PSone? Jokes? Go to Cash Converters and buy one for $20.

        • Fail.. brain scrambled with the Xbone.. meant the PS4

  • I recently went to Myer to purchase an iPod touch for my son. I asked if they would price match Office works (like you had vouchers in pocket). But they wouldn't match the very low Office Works price, and could only get to $30 off the mark (which was a good bit lower than the label price.
    I still have my vouchers!

  • Myers have this folder which list their cost price of their products, if the price youre asking them to price match is lowers than the the folder, they wont match. Some of their cost price is ridiculous. I was looking at a Remington Pearl hair straightener salon kit, their normal price was $189, their cost price was $99. BigW's normal shelf price was $99 (and their special online price was $43)

    • Yea many distributors price based on the company and the market. So myer has to pay more than say a low price department store like target or big w. it seems silly, but this is what accountants call transfer pricing apparently.

    • Sometimes that "cost" price includes their overhead costs. It is not the price they have paid for the item.

A slippery trick that is used in advertising "cost +1c" promotions.
