Good to See COTD Still Haven't Learnt from Their Mistakes (Baitathon on 27 May)

Their back up to their old tricks with the "Baitathon".
Willing to crash their own servers and annoy their customers.
Gotta laugh … some people are really slow learners.

There's a million ways to implement this better.
I'm sure there will be many pissed off OzBargain users.

  • why? what happened mate? i saw a 1TB external hard drive for today's sale @ $160 delivered - don't think it's going to crash the website for that. unless i'm missing something

update: my mistake, i should have looked lower on that page. i think the prices aren't that "incredible" this time. and since their last f*-up, they've had more media exposure so it is sure to get more hits

  • **lol and lol and lol.. yup.. it will be a negativo fest again **

    *Presenting the "Baitathon"

On the 27th of May we'll be running a little promotion. We'll be selling a lot of stuff that people love and want, at prices they could only dream about.

    • Its all happening to get people talking about CatchOfTheDay
    • Quantities are very limited, and listed below
    • We can't predict how big the response will be, have mercy on our servers

You may be thinking "Ahh they are only doing this to get new customers" and thats entirely true. For better or for worse we are doing this for the exposure. We'd like you to talk to your friends, shout high and low and let it be known that CatchOfTheDay.com.au is the most exciting online shopping destination.

If you think you may just find the excitement a little too much, maybe you have an allergy to server crashes - you should probably sit this one out. In the spirit of being very up front weve listed all the items and quantities available below. No promises or guarantees, if you get in, and catch something - congratulations. If not - top marks for trying, chances are high well give it another run next month.

We have no way to predict how big the response will be. There is a high probability our website will explode under the weight of a million bargain hunters jamming the refresh button. Our server administrator sends his regards.

We are calling it the "Baitathon. The sale will start May 27th at midday, the goodies in store are detailed in the over blown graphic below:*

  • Yeah I dont think the prices are "that" fantastic… except for the movie tickets! Thats ace! Everything else is meh. Even the DSi is only $50 cheaper then in EB games… Nice to know they acknowledge their servers are gonna die… least they can say we warned you.

  • Haha … someone has now posted this as a "deal". Oh well hopefully they don't get too many negatives. Although I think most OzBargain users have learnt their lesson … the amount of time you spend to try and get any of these deals is worth more than what you save.

  • I think QQQ might be testing their server at Rackspace again :) Here is a tip for ya — get rid of Apache and use something else, and your server will be able to take far more load (and will just be slow instead of descending into swap hell). Hopefully they are more prepared this time.

Note: I am sure QQQ would know about this thread — he seems to be more familiar with OzBargain than I do, last time when I talked to him :)

  • Hmm..'baitathon'. I guess the name says it all!

  • I'll close this thread for now and focus the discussion on the offer thread here.

  • Well. The CoTD Batiathon is LIVE but the deal posting has gone below the front page so I am opening up this thread if anyone wish to discuss can post either here or in the deal thread.
