  • Couldn't this be foiled by just turning off wifi or taking out the battery?

Also not sure if they'll chase up with LEOs outside of America

Not saying this isn't a good saving, just not convinced by the product yet

    • Sure, but a laptop without a battery or Internet isn't much use.

Lojack and Prey work best when the thief doesn't notice them. Thief stands in front of the camera, laptop takes a photo. Thief accesses the Internet, Prey/Lojack tie them to an IP address (and the name, address, and CC# of the person paying for that Internet service). Thief logs on to Facebook, laptop snaps a pic of the wall, showing their name, friends and activities. Thief leaves laptop running, laptop photographs the inside of their home. Thief leaves WiFi on, laptop starts triangulating its position based on the WiFi access points it can see.

If you go to police with a nice fat dossier of evidence of someone using a stolen laptop - even if they're in another country - they'll usually follow it up, as it's an easy bust, and they often catch the thief with other stolen goods/drugs on hand, too.
