Toyota capped price servicing

I have a car (2010 corolla) that just finished toyota capped price servicing ($130) last year.

Now I am due for another log book service for 70,000km and the quote I got from the dealer is just ridiculous!, $390 service for a normal change of engine oil and filter plus some minor check ups for 70,000km and $460 for 80,000km.

Does anyone else have experiences with toyota services after capped price servicing? Is $390 for a corolla log book service just a rip off? Is there any cheaper ways or cheaper service centres to do the log book service?

your advices are greatly appreciated :))

This site is so great !!!

      THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!

  • I remember asking a quote for a major 160k service from Toyota and they wanted $1200…..Went over to K-mart Auto and they did it for $590

    • Do you recommend any K mart auto?

There are three of them near my house and everytime I go there ( been to all 3 of them) for my 5 years old Kia sportage they seem to forget some bolts under the hood and I have return after few hours to tell them to replace the bolt..

      • Some people have bad experiences with Kmart Auto, depends on the place I guess. I've never had any issue with the guys I go to. They do a great job on my servicing and when I get my tires replaced.

Different people, different preferences I guess

    • You ask Toyota now for the 160K service, they want $1400!!!

  • Any good mechanic can do a book service. I agree with above, just go to K-Mart. You'll save heaps and they're as good as anywhere else.

    Sorry were are you based?

    If Melbourne:
I went in for a $110 cap price service on my Prius at Melbourne City Toyota and the guy tried to charge me $560 because they pushed me back on my service date and it put it outside of the fixed date for service!!! Will NEVER use Melbourne City Toyota again. Dodgy b'stds. They also refused to supply information on my cars warranty work to another dealer because I complained about the $560 service!

I also found Airport West were pretty expensive and hopeless at warranty work.. They couldn't fix any of my warranty issues on both our cars (which have been in for multiple safety recalls, the new fashion with Toyota).

I also tried South Melbourne, at the time (2 years ago) they had a good service manager and she did the same type of service as the capped price service for $130, plus did a good job and even washed the car. Now days they are managed by someone else, a guy named Hug or Gus or something and services are around $300 for a minor one, plus I caught them out recently on failing to fix a critical water pump issue with the Prius which my new mechanic found and we then had to force them to repair it at Toyota costs using our local mechanics report. I am still waiting on South Melbourne to fix 3 outstanding warranty faults so at this stage I cannot recommend them as they've had months to deal with the issues and anyone that takes safety faults as a unimportant customer issue is not getting a recommendation from me.

    NOW a recommendation!!

Recently I have switched to using http://www.fixedpricecarservice.com.au/

Using this service I found a local mechanic (Hutchin), and he now looks after both our Toyota's. His prices are very reasonable and he fills in the log book every time and he comes to our house to do the service.

So do check out that system.

Oh, B.T.W. 70k.. I know some of the services at around this point is very expensive due to a lot of labour to clear out filters in tanks and other tricky places. So although it looks "minor" its might not be. Anyway the website I mentioned will confirm if its major or minor when you get a comparison on prices!

Anyway, I think you can do better than Toyota service centres if you shop around.. I had some nasty experiences with Ultratunes though.. (and I am able to strip and rebuild a car so I know a little about cars. The people I met at our closest Ultratune (Fitroy) couldn't even do a compression check on an engine correctly. )
Other dodgy places are ProRepair in North Melbourne (installed a ford carburetor on a commodore), and there is another couple bad ones my area..

    • I'm sorry to hear pain experience with other toyota dealers :( no body wants to go through those pain in the A*** experiences :(.
My toyota is from Nunawading toyota, they are highly recommended !

I never had problems with their services for last 3 years and they come with free car wash and vacuum. Its just that the price is bit too high for a minor service at 70k when the major service is due at 80k..

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for the car service place near box hill, 3128, area?

K mart auto around here are just crap and seems to be very very dodgy.

I have looked up some place:

    Ultratune Brandon park: http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/ultra-tune-brandon-park…
    seems to have excellent reviews

    and

    Master auto service Mitcham: http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/mitcham-automotive-serv…
they seem to have good and bad reviews in google.

Has anyone have any experiences with these people?

BTW THANK YOU FOR THE HELP GUYS :)!

  • A friend of mine used to be a dealer mechanic and some of his stories were shocking (like the engine which was rebuilt in a customers car - the problem was actually that someone had swapped two spark plug leads)!! They still charged the customer several thousand.

Try finding a local independent guy who seems trustworthy. I use monash automotive (Wellington rd Clayton) fair price and great service, no BS or rip offs in the 10 years I've gone there. The workshop isn't pretty but the owner is a pleasure to deal with compared to the clowns at dealerships.

    • How much does Monash automotive charge for a minor service ?

    • Thanks for the heads up - checked a few places and Monash automotive seems to have reasonably good feedback - I am going to give them a shot and will keep you posted.
