  • I work at st George bank and can offer you an insurance quote for cgu.

  • I used woolworths in south America. with a 10% off code. for me, the advantage was that it didn't exclude an activity that others excluded and that nomads doubled the premium for (as a sport policy). others prefer it cos it has I think 3000 cover for a single item, say computer, while others cap it much lower. others prefer it as it includes kids in the cover for free.

I have never made a claim, but I did my checks before buying. Ive also previously used travel insurance direct with 10 off code.

    just read the policy.

also, my view, which may be dumb, is that the big companies which you trust because they are well known, will screw you just as much to get out of covering you.

  • I used travel insurance direct.

Period of Insurance: 21/06/2014 to 17/07/2014
    Destination: Brazil
    TOTAL: AUD $135.36

  • take out a Covermore policy from a travel agency or buy online. They are a respected travel insurance organisation that pay out claims and are known for this. If you find yourself with a medical emergency they will pay all the claim for sure. They paid a $60k bill when I was in asia. Buy a cheap policy and you get cheap service… go covermore for sure purchase from flighcentre

  • I had a claim last year from a skiing injury in Japan. This year, we went back to Japan and I actually read the various PDS's (instead of just going for the cheapest). They vary greatly. Some companies cover skiing (but only in resort, on-piste), some don't cover "hiking", "bushwalking" or anything similar (or anything fun)… Some have a huge list of exceptions, some have a huge list of activities they don't cover.

Read, and understand, the PDS and make sure you're covered for the activities you foresee yourself engaging in.

  • Just some further information:
Will be going from 3 of june to to 23 of july
will be doing machu picchu trek in july( + if i had the chance to other adventure activities in south america would be inclined to do it)
going to the WC in for most of june
Not taking any expensive valuables( just cheap smartphone)
