Australian DealExtreme Website

Just a heads up in case anyone else gets caught like I did. If you go to the australian dealextreme website aud.dx.com which has the australian flag in the logo etc, you would be excused for thinking that the prices are in australian dollars. They aren't, I just did a purchase for $182.99 and my credit card went down by $214. And no you don't have an option to select which currency like you do on the normal dx.com website and it doesn't say USD anywhere on the order page or in the checkout. As they say the items are posted by TOLL in Australia you would think that the prices are AUD as well.

So watch your prices and remember they in USD

A lot of us got burnt from DX a while back and don't touch them any more. They're always pulling a shifty of some kind…

  • Bugger. Should have done some more searching first I guess :(

The checkout page definitely quotes in USD whilst the product pages quotes the estimated conversion from AUD (if you hit the AUD flag).

    $8.84 AUD

and quoted as $7.74 USD on checkout page.

As of 5PM, 6/1, the market rate for $7.74 comes out to $8.65 so in this case it is in your favour. However due to currency fluctuations, it could be good or bad. Your credit card might also have bad currency rates which may lead to a higher fee.

  • Not on the aud.dx.com page it doesn't. There is no option to hit an AUD flag or otherwise and both product page and checkout page show the same. Because it was specifically called AUDirect and the postage iis supposibly from Australia using TOLL and it has Australia written everywhere most people would be excused for thinking it was in AUD. have a look at the difference between dx.com and aud.dx.com and you will see what I mean.

    • Ah, that is weird. No currency mentioned anywhere.

      • Exactly, so with the australian flag and Australian delivery you can see where the confusion comes from.

        • What did their customer support say?

I phoned and they said to post a ticket. Still waiting for a reply from that but after doing a sample currency conversion it's fairly clear what's happened. Also went and checked the same item on the regular site and it matches the USD price so again looks like it is in USD.

Not really complaining about being ripped off, just wanted to highlight so that others thinking they were on an Australian version of the site were aware.

  • Their sign up bonus appears to be in AUD, if you go to dx.com you get $3 for signing up to the newsletter however on aud.dx.com you get $5 for the same thing which is one of the other reasons I thought it must be in AUD.

Not that it let me actually use the bonus on my order which is another problem I have with them.
