Computer Boot Issue - Can Someone Help Me Out?

Hey Guys,

Hoping someone can help me out with my issue - My PC won't boot up at all the fan still spins and you can hear it trying to read the drive, the monitors don't power on etc. I think it could be a motherboard issue but the numbers don't really mean anything to me that are displaying on the board as they just align with processes initialising in the documentation for the motherboard. Can someone technical help me out in diagnosing the hopefully non expensive issue to fix? I included a video link of the motherboard lights etc - https://www.dropbox.com/s/0l5twv0xt7o0nkc/IMG_5700.MOV

  • What is the brand & model of the motherboard?
Do you have a separate Graphics card, or using the inbuilt graphics on the motherboard?

  • Check all cables plugged in to start off with.

Easy things: Try reinstalling RAM, resit the cmos battery. Might be overload, there OL code. Not sure if that applies to your board.

  • do you have any monitor you can try plug in?
do you have another computer you can try plug into your monitor?

does monitor not work at all or does it go past post then go black?

    • The computer doesn't boot up at all, I have tested the monitors on a laptop so that's not hte issue unfortunately.

      • have you tried the two things arctic suggested above?

cmos is just the flat battery looking thing

        • How do I reset it - sorry for the silly question I dont really know what im looking for.

i would just suggest the 3rd method its the easiest

basically take out battery put it back in

        • Thanks! Will check it out when I get home from work and post back - really appreciate the suggestions.

        • You are a legend!!

Now to work out how to get it all back to booting ;)

        • that didn't fix it?
is it posting now? can you get into BIOS?

found with google works wonders if you type exactly what the problem it
so much helpful sites out there these days especially with computitech type stuff

        • I can get to the bios screen but as soon as I exit bios I just get a black screen.

        • at this point its pretty much trial and error at your end
there are many causes which you just need to systematically check

          google
          black screen after bios

and there should be many results on what you can try

  • The solutions in this thread may help you:

Has your system ever worked? I.e. is it a new build?

    • Yup has been working for the last 1.5 years and just decided to crack it :(

      • Most motherboards have a CMOS reset—> generally a set of 2-3 pins you cap, or "bridge" to reset the system BIOS.

Doing this should bring you to a BIOS screen.

So, unplug all drives. Remove all but one stick of RAM. Take out & re-seat your graphics card. Reset CMOS (either by pin method or by removing the cin battery).

FYI- CMOS reset is done with power cord removed & after power button is then held in for a few seconds to release any residual power in the system.

Now, see if you get into BIOS.

Let us know. If this doesn't bring any joy, I'll suggest it's likely your PSU.

      • If you have access to another PC, burn a CD image of Knoppix & boot to it- see if it runs. If so, there's likely a HDD or Windows OS error.
