  • Just do a credit card chargeback.

  • +1

small Telco players like this only here for a short term because it is just not a sustainable business and they can only make $$ ripping customers off like this.

Did you cancel the account before the trial month was up?

  • Can you elaborate - did they charge you for any specific thing?
Call them up and get the charges reversed.
Else call your CC and tell them it was an unauthorized transaction.
    Keep us updated.

  • If you signed up through the free-offer page or website link, this is a clear mistake and shouldn't have happened. It certainly didn't happen to me or to anybody else that I'm aware of.

I personally found Yatango responsive to a number of emails sent. I would go down that path (if you haven't already) before initiating a chargeback process. As benjiross indicated, the first thing to do is just ask them to refund money back onto your card.
Unless you did something very silly in the sign-up process, or on the plan upgrade page, it shouldn't be an issue.

  • The free trial for me was painless. There was no need to cancel. The instructions on sign up stated that if I did not top up or recharge, would not be charged. Wonder if that is changed now.
Have you used the free trial more than once?

    • Yep, that's what it said when I signed up too. "Just take the sim out and no charges, and hard feelings"

Don't think I'll be going with them at the end of the trial, so we'll find out if that's true.

  • How did you go? I was just about to sign up… >.<"

  • Should I bother signing up with these guys? 1MB/session sux bad.

    • 1MB/session sux bad.

      Why? (Serious question.)

      • because even when you use 10kilobytes in one session, they still charge you as 1 megabyte.

        • I'm on Amaysim and they also have 1MB sessions and I've never found it an issue because I don't keep turning mobile data on and off, nor does the phone experience a lot of dropouts. This is from real experience. Do you really have session roundup issues or you are just repeating a meme?

        • I'm currenty on a plan with 100kb sessions and I turn it data on and off every day and connect to wifi etc. And I can see wasted usage but imagine 10 times that.

          What's your monthly data usage?

        • I'm currently on Amaysim AYG, and when I turn it on I usually use somewhere between 1 and 4 MB for that session, checking email on a few accounts, doing some light surfing, including OzBargain, but no Youtube etc of course. Some months I will buy a 1GB data pack and then I leave mobile data on all the time, except when it comes within range of WiFi and it autoswitches to WiFi, and I usually end the month at around 150-200MB, so I use up the remainder on a large download the last day.

Make sure you really have an issue with session rounding before concluding that you will get charged 10x.

        • It is very much a case of suck it and see as regards your experience of 1MB increment rounding on the Optus network.

I use alot of mobile data and have ten+ different, functioning Optus APN's programmed into my phone including a couple of very nice ones, that, strictly speaking, I shouldn't be able to access, but can.

Regardless of the APN in use, even when I'm in the same spot, connected to the one tower, it is not exactly unusual at times on some days for the signal to drop out completely for several seconds, three or four times an hour.

You definitely will get a rounding increment kicking in at that point - all other activity aside. (And conspiracy theories as to why it can happen that often, aside!)

I wish you a better experience than that - and you may well get it - but as greenpossum indicated regarding the increment issue generally, it may not be as big an issue for you as you fear.

        • Well thanks for sharing your experiences guys.
I am thinking of getting the yatango sim with just 500mb, no calls no sms. I am concerned about the 1mb/session but I guess I'll have to just suck it as tas puts it.

        • Thanks for the info.

I would recommended you switch off the wifi when not in use. Although you can't hear it with your ears but this is what it sounds like constantly if it was audible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snt2uaQd_Ps

That kinda noise is not good for your cells.

        • Yeah and don't stand near microwave ovens either. :)

The analogy to sound is an unscientific way of assessing it. Lots of radiation, including say for example light, might sound bad if converted into sound. That doesn't necessarily mean they are harmful, you should do the study on the original radiation.

        • Good or bad for your health is up to you to decide. The fact is most people are unaware of the sound clicks of the different transmission protocols nor the constant power output of these devices even though they are not connected to the network.

          Anyway… to yatango or not…

        • I really worry about the future of Australia when pseudoscientific theories are rife and clips from Youtube are proffered as fact. Sigh.

As some who has an EE degree you are wrong about constant power output for example. These devices adapt their power transmission for signal strength. Plus you are dealing with two bands, one for the phone and one for the WiFi. Even when the WiFi is off, the phone is active unless you have turned that off, so as not to receive calls.

        • The youtube clip showed the operation of an EMF meter where's the pseudoscience in that? Are you saying you have an EE degree?

Well same here and I have done an equivalent of this postgraduate unit of study http://cusp.sydney.edu.au/students/view-unit-page/alpha/ELEC… plus satellite communication and optical communication but this is irrelevant.

And I own one of these Cornet ED78S EMF meters, so I know the actual measured output and the actual behaviour of my phone when 2G/3G/WIFI is ON or OFF. http://www.radmeters.com/Cornet-ED78S-Limited-Time-norad.htm…

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make to you is, my brother, I would recommend switching OFF your WIFI when not in use to minimise and potential health risks to yourself and others especially children. That is all.

Thanks again for sharing your data usage experience.

        • What does the EMF converted to sound or not have to do with the purported effect on cells? Have you the required qualifications to assess the effect of EMF on cells, as opposed to being able to measure EMF?

It seems that these days anything can be turned into a scare campaign given a little knowledge and some "information" from the Internet. Thanks but save your advice for the gullible.

        • What does the EMF converted to sound or not have to do with the purported effect on cells?

EMF convert to sound is an audible means to "hear" the transmission protocol.
The actual high frequency EMF which I called "noise", has a negative effect on your cells/body. This is a known fact.

I'm not going to reply to any more of your typical left brain egotistical ignorant responses as it doesn't really help with my decision whether to sign up to Yatango or not.

        • Show me reputable medical studies that show EMF at the levels of WiFi have a negative effect on the body. Show me the excess deaths attributable to this WiFi EMF. "Sounds bad when converted to sound" is not a valid scientific argument.

Besides you missed the obvious fact that a mobile phone actually turns off WiFi when it is sleeping to save power.

You were the one who offered this unsolicited advice, so you should be called to account for the veracity of it.

        • As someone who just knows that if the RF soup he is currently floating in like a crouton is a health risk, then he personally is utterly screwed, and as someone who, by coincidence, bought a kit-form EMF meter almost exactly 25 years ago today (kindly wish me a happy/temporary survival anniversary), I just want you two to have a cuddle.

Will one of you please put a rose between your nashers so you can Yatango into the night?
          Carn.

        • So you're saying you recommend turning WiFi off on your phone when not in use because wifi signals are damaging to your cells?
If, hypothetically, they were damaging (which there is no evidence to prove), is turning you wifi on your phone off really going to have any impact? You should really be turning off your router. And also not going anywhere that has an active wifi signal.

Enjoy your life in a tin foil covered bubble

        • Alright, calm down.
          Wi-Fight?
          Peace, love and mung beans.
          You cuddle sintro too.
          Carrrn…
          Times 2.
