seeking 2nd hand computer parts i3/i5/FX6300 + Mobo + Ram + GPU HD7850 or similar

Hello,
I am wanting to build a mid level gaming PC, on a tight budget, so if you have any second hand parts for sale in the Melbourne area please PM me.
The ozbargain system will not allow me to post an ad in the classifieds because I am a single white male, cough, I mean because I am a noob.

CPU: something equivalent to a FX6300 (best bang for buck for modern multi-core gaming) or similar OR gen3 i3/i5/i7 if the price is right.
MOBO: to go with your CPU
RAM: 4gb is fine but will consider 8gb, 1333mhz or 1600mhz is fine
GPU: something equivalent to HD7850
You do not need to have all of the parts, any one would be fine.

All parts need to be fully working and I would like to test them at time of purchase.
I am paying cash.
I am fully aware of umart and msy new prices, and I have built about 20 pcs in the last 13 years, researching info from sites like tomshardware and whirlpool.
I am willing to pay a fair price for second hand.

If you can help please let me know,
Cheers,
NB

  • If you can't find anything that's better bang-for-buck, I have an XFX 6870 I don't use / care about anymore. If that's sufficient, just send me a PM - either way I don't mind.

  • Hi NB,

Since you're a savvy builder & know what's what re: parts, why not go through gumtree?

I just had a quick peek & there are all sorts of bargains to be had in Melbourne. I'm jealous!

Good luck- would like to hear back what you end up putting together & the final cost (OzB curiosity).

    Cheers

    • What are you serious???
I have looked at gumtree Melbourne, and just did again right now.
It's full of scammers and/or rip off merchants who are just as bad, or worse than ebay sellers.

Can you please give me a link to any good deal on gumtree Melbourne ???

Thanks, love to see what you can link to.

  • If you are not a member of OverClockers AU forums then join up
    forums.overclockers.com.au/
There is a waiting period before you can post/bid in the buy/swap forums (1 mth I think)
The gear available in these forums is amazing - full of geeks buying the latest and greatest and trading their barely used stuff at a hefty discount
You are more likely to get 'a steal' on gumtree if someone doesn't know the value of their stuff- geeks on OCAU won't be fooled
But to get great gear at less than retail OCAU is the best

    • Hi, the 1 month wait kills it for me, thanks any way.
Also, have heard that the 2nd hand price discounts aren't that great. 15%-20% off for a 1 or 2 year product isn't really that great. I would prefer to wait for 'sales' for new items from shops like umart msy +++ etc.

Read my above post re gumtree.
      Cheers, NB

      • In my experience the price drop is much more than that
1 year old would be more like 50% and it is negotiable - usually the seller sets a reserve and an instant price

I reckon if you had the time you could make some real pocket money buying stuff on OCAU and reselling on eBay especially if you lived metro Sydney or Melbourne to cut down shipping
I just bought a 2nd Gen Core i3 toshiba lappie (about 2 yrs old) with 3 batteries and still in warranty for $220 including post - worth twice that on eBay

The month wait is a hassle but suggest you register now for next time ;)
