Low cost carrier with international calling

Hi guys.

My family have recently finished their contract with Vodafone and looking to move to a low cost carrier. I've had a look at Vaya, LiveConnected etc and they seem quite good. Only issue is international calls are not included in their monthly credit.

Does anyone know any low cost carriers which DO allow you to use your credit for international calls? I think TPG does. Are there any others?

Thanks!

  • Lebara.com.au

    Look at new-min-mega.

  • Virgin does. Also free Virgin to Virgin, so good for family.

  • I would suggest using a VoIP service like pennytel and calling from your mobile using that when on wifi. Or if you have data left.

Then you can just go for the cheapest plans to fit your other needs without worrying about international calls.
If you need international calling on the go, Aldi payg is very cheap with good international rates.

  • Try AMAYSIM! They're AMA-Zing! hahah, stupid pun. But yeah seriously, try them out. I've been using them for the last year on their unlimited voice and sms plans for $39.95. Comes with 3 or 4GB data, cant remember.

My bill hardly goes over $50/ mth even when I use it to call internationally. $39.95 doesn't include overseas calling/ sms credits but for most locations, they seem to be quite cheap, e.g. $0.06/min for Singapore/ HK amongst others, with no flagfall. Compared to Skype at $0.02/ min, this connection is slightly better and I use it when the data connection isn't too strong.

Only downside is that it uses the Optus 3G network so you can't fully make use of the LTE capabilities of your phone if you have a LTE enabled phone. In terms of speed and coverage, seems alright for me in Melbourne and the SE suburbs.

They've also got $9.95 & $19.95 plans so you can check them out too if you don't use your phones too much.
