URGENT - Need to buy today a new laptop, please help!

Dear fellow OzBargainers

I am in South America today and my old dell has died, my niece is going to visit me in two weeks. I need a good realiable and light laptop as I travel overseas several times a year but just need a laptop for internet, work with MS Office, itunes, upload music to my iphone, watch movies and see a my pictures. I was thinking of getting a ASUS. Please enlight me with your suggestions.

My buget is 700 AUD. If the store is online and I can get it sent to my sisters address in Melbourne city that would be Ideal.

Thank you.

    Hi Ronaldo,

I would suggest looking at the Asus refurbs, such as http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-A55A-SX060H-V-CORE-I7-15-6-4…

    Cheers,

I'd also suggest having a look at the DELL 12.5" latitude refurbs: http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

Can compare specs to Asus and see what fits your needs best. Good luck.

    • I second this. Got this hybrid laptop/ tablet and it's been great. Looking to use it mainly for travelling since it's got long batt life (>10hrs). Only downsides are that it's slightly heavy for a tablet when you detach the keyboard dock, and the finish is slightly cheapo plastic so it attracts prints. But otherwise, this is a fine one. Normal price abt $500+ though I got mine heavily discounted at $400+ when DSmith had a sale and I price matched at OW.

  • I have heard a few comments on the net that Asus laptops are terrible for quality, which is in direct contrast to how good their Republic of Gamers stuff.

I know toshiba are known for reliability. Any chance that you can go through work or uni (or a friend's work or uni discounts) for a cheaper laptop?

    • That's not true. Every brand have reliable and poor builds, depending on the model and series.

A example would be that people generally associate Acer with being cheap and sh*tty, but their TimelineX series are almost as good as Lenovo X series are in business model lines.
