Screen door recommendations

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any recommendations for good value screen doors. Was just going to go for a bunnings one but wonder if there is a better deal out there?

Security is not such a big deal for us as we live in a really safe neighbourhood.

Thanks :-)

I used to live in a really bad neighbourhood, my mate who lived in the apartment above me worked for the police department, he confirmed to me quite a few hardened burglary criminals lived really close to us (as in metres away). I was worried - his comment to me was - "don't worry, dogs don't sh%t in their own bed".

My point is: Homes in good neighbourhoods still need good quality screen doors ;-)

  • On advice from the police I bought 2 Crimsafe doors for cross ventilation and a Crimsafe window on bathroom window so on these hots nights I can leave those 3 areas open get cross breeze and not be scared that someone can get in easily whilst I'm asleep.

Very expensive, but I don't regret it. I don't assume that local criminal idiots, or their mates can be trusted.

  • Do you have a cat?
There are 3 types of mesh; nylon, aluminium and steel (and then there's the crimsafe level of protection etc). But back to those basic 3 types…if you have a cat…you want the steel or they will love sharpening their claws on it and tear through it in no time. Dogs are nearly as bad…but you could probably do with the aluminium. Our cat loves climbing the steel one.

I think using screens as security is not the best idea…makes you feel like you're living in a prison. I went with high fences all the way around and a decent alarm system…the local druggies simply head for the "easy targets", they'd probably break their legs trying to get in.

  • How did you go with your screen door? I did a search for screen doors and found this old post. Our place seems to need an irregular size (200 x 850 x 25).
