Looking for a good offline Japanese Translation iOS app that can translate text through the phones camera

ie: for translating menus and street signs on the go, etc.

Any Recommendations?

most restaurants will have an English menu, or at least have pictures.

when they had the world cup everything changed. everyone always says "oh yeah everyone in Tokyo speaks english" they are liars.

but restaurants, trains, etc.. you'll be fine

  • Just get a japanese keyboard and type the phoenetic words, eg if it says "hakata-eki", you can type "ha-ka-ta e-ki" in your phone (in english characters) and it will turn it into the kanji or hiragana/katakana.

Honestly though you won't need it much. You'll hardly ever need to try and read kanji or japanese characters. if you do, take a printout of both alphabets (don't bother with kanji, most things will either have english or hira/kata next to it).

Every train station will have english signs and phoenetic english place names and such. Most "touristy" areas will have the same on signs and menus and such. Unless you're seriously venturing deep into the countryside without a guide or one of those translator computer things, you'll be fine.
