Need a cheap and good portable HDD!

Hi,

Thanks in advance for chiming into this thread.

I will be going abroad for 6 months for volunteering in Asia. My plan is to bring my laptop with me along with a portable HDD so I can watch some drama and use it as a photo storage medium.

I am leaving in 2 weeks time and I want to see if I can get a good cheap HDD before I go.

Can anyone recommend any? :)

Cheers~

I would go with something like a WD My Passport 1tb imo it's worth while spending a bit more and getting a good brand rather than going for the cheapest. This one seems to have decent reviews.

    • Thanks for the suggestion.
May I query further as to which one do you think will be better, brand-wise and price-wise?
I am open to all suggestions :)

I recommend that you pay a little more for alot more than just portable.

I have a Transcend StoreJet 25M3 1TB USB3.0+2.0 ruggedised drive and can highly recommend. Great reviews on the net will affirm.
Has been as cheap as $89 on OzBargain, but you're looking at about $99 now most probably.
That price on Ebay if you want it delivered (Oz seller), $90 from Hong Kong if you want to chance the delivery time a little.

    • Ahh, that was a good price. Now it is $10 dearer. I will put that into consideration :)

  • WD Definitely. There are no performance differences with the Elements & My Passport series
Only fact is the passport is slightly lighter and smaller.

You can get a cheap 1tb Element for like 89 bucks from jb

    • or $79 from The Good Guys, which you can get 5% off if you pricematched at officeworks.
