Canon EOS M 18MP Camera w/ Dual Lens & Flash $450 + $8 to Sydney @COTD [Warranty Issue?]

30

Comes with 18-55 and 22 lenses and flash. If this is local stock it's about $80 cheaper than anything else I've seen atm. Image states this is local stock with Canon warranty. However, my order confirmation states that warranty is provided by COTD and that items need to be sent to Victoria for repair. (uPDATE: all good. It's a Canon warranty. ) Yeah, they have a no-order-cancellation policy and 20-25% fee on returns. Dodgy.

  • Dodgy.

they got there reputation for a good reason.. it is most likely grey import stock caus thats mostly what they do. being that the canon warranty is just something written in the stock pic versus actually in the description id be doubly worried.

    • It is in the description:

1 Year Manufacturer Warranty - refer to 'Warranty' tab for details.

Although the warranty tab has no particularly useful information regarding this camera.

      • yea i just read that (i posted before reading COTD) so might be lucky

Screen cap before buying is advised when it's COTD! ;)

        • then they will just claim E&OE :)

        • Screen cap before buying is advised when it's COTD! ;)

After multiple people received less than the advertised amount of GLUE STICKS in a past offering (ie. impossible for it to be a mistake), I'm inclined to support this statement.

Personally I wouldn't dream of getting my camera here, but each to their own.

        • They would be under Aussie law so it's unlikely such blatant wrongs couldn't be settled eventually. But it would be a hassle that's for sure, and money would be tied up in the meantime. This is my first dealing with them so I'll know what to expect in future.

  • If it's local stock, it will have a 2 years warranty from Canon Australia. Grey import stock will be whatever the importer provides.

Also, Canon Australia only repair cameras at their repair centre in Sydney. Nothing in Melbourne anymore.

The description COTD provides is contradictory, so the usual COTD BS..

    • Yep 2 years Canon warranty is what I'm demanding, otherwise my money back in full.

  • Both Good Guys and JB were offering this bundle for $399 before xmas. I thought Canon had plenty of these to let go of and that would last a while. I guess not :)

  • If anyone else has bought this deal and has the same warranty issue please keep checking this post. I'll be updating my situation and perhaps we can take group action with Paypal and Dept of Fair Trading if things sour. However, my feeling is this is just a careless admin mistake.

Make sure you update the camera firmware if yours is not already v2.0.2

The earlier firmware had focusing issues. The update resolved the hunting issue, and somewhat sped up the AF of this device.

      • Thanks I know that. Wouldnt buy it otherwise. With workable AF, 2 sharp quality lenses, mic socket, magic lantern hack firmware available, made in Japan, 2yr Canon warranty (?), this is better deal than the Nex 3n which I was considering. Pity the nex 16-50 isnt as good?

    • Rereading the email I think the COTD warranty is in addition to amy manuf warranty. Regret the melodramatics… Oops… Hehe.

      • Been told it's a local Canon warranty.

      • Received camera. Documents confirm its a local Canon warranty. They reissued the deal for the long weekend. Camera/lens startup and AF is still too slow (even with new firmware) for street candids so manual focus is best for that. Lenses are sharp and are this camera's saving grace but won't work on any other camera. Accurate exposure. Battery life bad so factor in $40 for 2 generic spares off ebay.
