  • The Lenovo is more powerful, but it only has a 20 inch display with a 1600 x 900 resolution. So they obviously compromised on the display to give it a lower price.

The Aldi is more expensive, has a 24 inch 1080p LCD so you'll be able to see more information at once on the display. And as you know, if all you're running is Office applications and you don't need the performance, the higher res display would be a lot nicer than a 1600x900 one.

Another option is a laptop, which you can buy a dock or port replicator for and using it with an LCD monitor.

  • the lenovo seems to have a really crap integrated graphics, hd 2500???
    I thought 3000 was bad enough…

So your definitely better off with the Medion, released in q3'13 so it's probably running a HD4000.

Back in those days, hd3000 failed to even run high definition (720p) videos (off memory)… so I'm not exactly sure what a hd2500 can do.

    Definitely buy the Medion.

edit: it's a little bit slower than the hd4000, but still much much much much superior to a hd3000, nt to mention 2500. No competition, get the medion
The HD Graphics (Bay Trail) is based on the Intel Gen7 architecture, which supports DirectX 11 and is also found in the Ivy Bridge series (e.g. HD Graphics 4000). With only 4 EUs (Execution Units) and a relatively low clock speed of up to 792 MHz, the GPU is even slower than the HD Graphics (Ivy Bridge). Therefore, only older and less demanding games will run fluently.

Wrong. The 3570 is Ivy Bridge and has HD 4000. HD 2500 is Sandy Bridge. Both are poor, no SSD's and the Lenovo's screen is pffft. Have MSY build you a decent tower instead or do it yourself.

    • bao28, that is what I am planning to buy… ALDI Medion with 2 year warranty.

Do you know whether Intel® Pentium® processor J2850 is faster than Intel i5 3rd generation?

      Thank u

      • It's much slower. Ingore these guys about video, both are fine.

  • ethereal, what is MSY?

    • +1

MSY is a multi-branch ultra-cheap computer and electronics component seller. Low, low prices. Expect next to zero service. You should know what you want before you arrive an MSY. You have done all your research and you know what you want.

You go to MSY to save big bucks … not to expect friendly banter while you're asking the merits of two or three similar products.

Consider something like this as an alternative:

    http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…
    $684

    Pro
    - Better performance that both systems you list
    - Better screen than the Lenovo
    - Easy to change screen (or other parts) due to failure/upgrade

    Con
    - Not as cheap as Lenovo
    - You have to put it together yourself (only a few screws, very quick job)
    - Not a single item for warranty/support
    - No Windows licence (need to buy one if you don't have one)
    - No CD/DVD drive (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…)

    • Does that have a fan?

      • Yes, but it's very quiet.
