Wanted info on a perimeter fence system to keep dogs from jumping existing 5ft fences

Have been looking at electric dog fences but am really not sure if they are any good or safe. We have 2 med/large dogs that keep jumping the current large fences (rental property so no point changing the fence). Have tried putting lattice on parts but would take too much and looks messy. They also dig to get under some parts.
Hence we were looking at the electric perimeter wire systems. Has anyone used one of these? Are they safe? Is the plug in better than rechargeable (less convenient but might work better)? Are there different collar types and if so which is best? Did find a few on Ebay but that just confused me more.
Any assistance or advice on what, type, brand or any other info would be greatly appreciated.

  • I had friends (since moved to NZ) who used one of these systems to keep their two energetic lab-cross dogs within a one metre high, snake-proofed, perimeter fence, after losing a much-loved pup to a dugite bite. Both dogs are excellent jumpers and diggers, but with the receiver collars on, they quickly learned to stay within the boundary and after a month or so, the collars were no longer necessary. I'm sorry I can't provide answers to your detailed questions, but yes, electric dog fences can work very well.

    • thanks, every bit helps.
