Tiger's Booking fee - Mastercard Debit card?

I was hoping use my new Qantas FF card "Qantas Cash" to book a Tiger flight to avoid the booking fee as it's a Mastercard (love the irony), but according to the website it's neither a credit or debit card.

Whats the easiest Mastercard Debit card to get? My bank, ANZ, only does Visa debit cards grrr - do I really have to open another bank account to get one?

Cheers JB

  • I wouldn't call it easy, they stuffed up twice before successfully delivering it, and far past the redemption of a $50 bonus, but MeBank's debit card is a MC DC, so I'm hanging onto the account for this reason, with a small balance.

  • 28 degrees

    • It's a CC.

      • You can pre-load it with your own cash and use it as one, not advertised but can be done.
Use it like this all the time whenever I travel.

        • The question is really whether Tiger's systems will recognise it as a DC. Where the money comes from, whether you are going into debt or it's prepaid, Tiger doesn't know.

        • Agreed - I did miss the bit about debitcard as well in OP

Also you can't do that 28degrees preload trick for free now.

  • Woolworths sells a prepaid Mastercard product. I don't know if Tiger would recognise it as a debit mastercard or not.

The only bank options I can think of for a Debit mastercard with no regular fees or minimum deposits is either ME Bank or the CommSecure cash account.

Bank West Zero or Hero Transaction Account comes with a Debit Mastercard.

Another option to consider if you're not hell bent on flying tiger is to find a jetstar flight that's within an hour of your tiger flight and call up jetstar to price match if tiger are cheaper. You'll get an additional 10% off and you can pay with whatever card you like and not party any surcharges!

  • Not sure which site you're referring to that says Qantas FF card isn't a MasterCard debit card.
I have the QantasCash card and used it extensively while in the UK/France as a multi-currency card.
When back in Oz and still having some Euro on it, I converted the balance back to AUD and have been using it for Tiger flights my family need to book - no issues with it at all. Just did it again 2 days ago and worked without a hitch.
Also Coles have a MC debit card they sell for $10, it may be worth looking at
