$500-$700 Gaming Desktop Adelaide

Hi guys, I am looking for a new desktop to play some recent games on medium settings (Battlefield 4, DayZ etc). I am looking to spend around $500-$700 and was wondering what kind of specs I could get for my money. I need just the desktop as I have everything else and was wondering what you would recommend?

I am hoping for pre-built but wouldn't mind putting it together myself. I have a mouse, keyboard and monitor and just need everything relating to the computer.

Thanks,

Would prefer a shop based in Adelaide or a store that delivers to Adelaide.

  • My rough estimates for a build to handle BF4 on medium would be

$200 Mobo - This would be mid range mobos for z87
    $300 CPU - I5 Haswell
    $450 R9 280x - or $300 for R9 270(x)
    $100 8Gb ram 1866/1600

perhaps salvage some parts from your current rig?

Would anything lower then the GPU and CPU i mentioned handle BF4 on medium on 1080?

    • You know what, neg this post… it was stupid of me not to check whirlpool first…

CPU: AMD FX 6300 $139 OR Core
    Mobo: ASRock 970-PRO3 R2.0$89
    RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) G.Skill/Kingston DDR3-1600 $99
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue 1TB $69
    GPU: MSI R9 270 Gaming 2GB $219
    Case+PSU: Thermaltake V4 w/ USB3 and 500W Litepower PSU $79
    ODD: Samsung DVDRW $19

The above is from the $700 build from WP wiki.

    • haha i made a mistake in my post… but yeah forgot about AMD CPUs…

I think this rig would be good enough to run BF4 on high unless you MUST have 60fps constant.

Also you may need speakers or headphones unless you've already got those.

I see you're considering something prebuilt - several stores I've been to (MSY/PC-DIY/ARC) sell individual parts and then charge a flat fee for assembly and testing, usually around $80.

    • You can get 1866 G.Skill for $99 now as well.

WD Blues are around $10 cheaper as well

  • Hi guys, thanks for all the recommendations. But what I am looking for is a pre-built system from a place such as AllNeeds or MSY. Are there any other stores with free delivery/based in Adelaide that do pre-built systems?

    • By pre-built I assume you mean a complete system with no input into components? These sorts of systems, the kind you would find at officeworks/jbhifi are typically overpriced, ie, $700 will not get you what you want. Your best bet is to select parts and either build it yourself or pay ~$80 for msy to build it.

    • Most computer shops will do a build-to-order system, with an additional labour cost.

Going with a prebuilt would only serve to limit the choice of parts you can have, and it would also take just as long to assemble. Computer shops like MSY generally do not have 'prebuilts' — rather they have an easy list of desktop builds that you can choose from, which is assembled after the ordering process. Thus, there is no benefit in going with a prebuilt — you don't get the full range of parts in that list and the actual costs are camouflaged.

It is better to specify your own parts and balance the performance between the CPU and GPU.

  • I don't think you should go higher than an amd fx6300 with such a tight budget.

Put more into the gpu because you should get the best price per performance return there.
