Hi everyone
Just wondering if any of you are with Energy Australia for electricity & gas. If so im wondering what discount you get on each bill? They tell me i am on the highest discount available but i since found out a friend of mine is on higher so im interested to know what everyone else is getting.
I get a guaranteed 3% on every bill plus 8% if i pay the bill on time so 11% in total.
I am also in Melbourne Victoria if that makes any difference.

thanks alot for that. I had a look into Dodo but their rates were alot higher than Energy Australia so it still worked out more expensive even with the bigger percentage off. Not sure if its the same for all areas but thats what i worked out for mine. Thank you though :)
Just stick to a regulated price plan with the 1-3% discount with no lock-in contract.
You can choose any provider for this. If you sign up for 1-2 year contract on the regulated rate, only then can you save money as you would get 5% discount.
The discounts may have changed since I last looked, but the regulated rates are the way to go.
thanks heaps :) im actually out of contract now so just on a month to month & still get the discount luckily. But i can leave at anytime if i find something better! just thought i would see if anyone got a higherdiscount!
Honestly, don't worry about the "discount". Also be wary of if it's just on usage or the total bill - often it's just usage, so the $70-$100+ quarterly service charge won't be eligible.
Best way is to do up a spreadsheet - chuck in your usage quantities, and work out what your usage cost & service charge would be for that bill with their rates (after any discounts offered). Do it for a few bills over a few providers.
The best ones I found were Momentum, Red Energy and Lumo, with some others on a middle pricing tier, and Origin, Energy Australia, AGL etc. all bringing up the rear. The cheapest ones were also the ones with no discounting, just cheaper rates & service fees.
Lastly, keep in mind if the electricity supplier also does gas. You won't save much on gas (I had probably a $50 difference per year between highest & lowest pricings), but that could also be something to consider if tossing up between 2.
Call them and request a discount as you are considering moving providers. 11% is pretty good and if they offer more its a bonus.
thanks guys. yeah the discount is off the total bill, not just usage! i think some companies would catch alot of ppl on that one tho! i will check out red energy and lumo i dont think i looked into them.

Red Energy gives me 12% of the total bill including the 'service charge'.

I just called up Energy Aus to have 3% off the electricity and negotiate 12% off if paid on time for electricity and gas :)
my elect rate is 27c/kwh non contract in vic :)
Used to negotiate a 13% off total bill from Energy Australia after telling them the other provider's offer.
Not on Energy Australia, but Dodo gives 30% off usage on electricity and 20% off usage on gas if it's bundled together. The savings on gas is pretty insignificant but the savings on electricity is pretty good.
