DealExtreme

I've been looking at http://www.dealextreme.com and i recognize a bit of junk i want to buy.
I am quite aware that the quality of the products seems questionable (seems to be an online $2 shop), but how about the shipping etc, did you get all the products you ordered etc? Mainly just looking for some reassurance before i put my credit card details in.

  • Yes they are trustworthy. There are about 13 threads about them on whirlpool.

Although you'll eventually get your item, sometimes it may take a while for the item to be delivered to you if they don't have it in stock. However, they always offer you the option of canceling your order or selecting other items in such cases.

The thing I love about them is that everything you see includes shipping. You pay nothing more than what is advertised. Also, you don't need to give them your credit card details, as all payments are made through PayPal.

    • thanks mate. i should really join whirlpool

  • Always my first port of call for any cables, electronics 'stuff' etc since even with the exchange rate to USD they're pretty good.

When buying, you can get them to drop the shipping logo off your package (aka add a sticker) to make it look less obvious as an order for 1 cent extra (customs etc).

Occasionally have had some things not work when they've arrived, but the support is top notch (better than eBay sellers/resellers) and they've always re-sent me out my items again straight away (or refunded).

    • I've bought some interesting stuff; Nintendo DS homebrew carts are very cheap from them. BUT, watch out for their lasers though: their specifications are inaccurate.

I had a DealExtreme shipment held up for more than a month in Customs because of a 0.5mW laser pointer that I threw in as a last minute "oh, always wanted a laser pointer, and a nice legal one too". Customs tested it at over 1mW, which pushed it from being a Laser of Pointing to a Laser of Getting in Trouble. They then sent me a registered letter explaining in great detail how they assumed I wasn't actually meaning to import a Prohibited Item, and I had the opportunity to demonstrate my valid reason to import it, and so on… which was great if I had intended to import a > 1mW laser, but I could not get much enthusiasm about sending a letter of explanation to Customs apologising for DealExtreme's mistake.

Eventually Customs assumed I did not care about the laser and allowed the rest of the parcel to be delivered. Big waste of time for all involved, and a small waste of money.

      • why the hell did someone neg vote you… jeeze

    • Likewise although had one bad experience with a torch that never got resolved. Hey the advantage is with an local $2 shop you have to get in your car and spend a few bucks in petrol to "resolve" a problem. Here it's just an email. That incident aside I have found the products worthwhile and the savings over time have more than offset the one issue. Still a customer although have satisfied my junk gadget cravings so I dont buy as much - although now the $$$ is moving up again the bargain value index is also moving up.

  • +1

I have bought a couple of things from them, arrived quickly and all worked OK. Like anything I suppose, do your homework before you buy.

    cheers
