[Urgent] eBay Buyer

Hi,
I've posted this item up on ebay for sale and it was sold within 2 hours to a buyer.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251435…

I'm concerned that the buyer may be a fraud and not sure whether to proceed with the shipping and payment or not.

Her email to me requesting the invoice was:

I am happy to be the winning buyer of your item here on eBay.i want the item to be posted out Via AUS POST EXPRESS for Fast delivery, I will offer you the sum AU $3,500 for the cost of the item and shipment.I am browsing with my phone so in other to avoid time wasting and also i do not get most messages from eBay, i want you to please confirm my purchase by sending me an email (gb###[email protected]) with the item number as the subject. thx

I would like to have the item posted to the address below:
Gloria B… (censored)

Anyways, I think the manner in which types is very suspicious and so is the email. I've learnt that the email addresses ending in 3 numbers are generally fakes?
What should I do in this situation?

    Scam.

Relist with conditions such as local buyer, immediate payment, etc

  • what kind of feedback does the buyer have? and i always activate buyer protection (can't think of the proper name) that was you can stop a lot of time wasters in their tracks…

and did you agree to postage? as your listing was local pickup only?

normal person will not offer $200 for postage.

  • my MSN email address ends in 987, so its not impossible, but i would agree…noone will pay $200 postage

Scam, account is likely to be stolen. I've had this sort of situation a few times. Report to ebay and relist your item.

  • Don't risk it. File a dispute instantly to avoid the $250 you will be up for in fees. And report to eBay.

The seller is a brand new account, and they have done another buy it now with someone else…

  • It seems dodgy. Their delivery address on their PayPal payment will mostly be different than the delivery address in their email. This is the main concern because you must deliver to the delivery address on their PayPal payment. Otherwise, the buyer could make a claim and get a full refund, and you receive nothing in return.

No the dodgy part is the EXPRESS POST. This method of delivery does NOT give paypal seller protection.

I would withdraw from the sale completely citing irreconcilable differences. Who cares if they leave a you a negative atleast you won't lose your cash.

    • No way you would send something so high value via express post.
Agree with everyone in saying to be very sceptical.

  • For a high-value item, only ship to a confirmed Paypal address using insured postage with signature. I would agree that the buyer looks really dodgy - there are ways to nullify the sale without financial or feedback penalty, but you have to go through a dispute process first.

Agree to it only, but on the condition of direct deposit.

Or 'upgrade' shipping to trackable express courier (with ID verification) for free and without letting the buyer know. $200 should well and truly cover it

Edit: As Tal_Shiar mentioned, your posting is local pickup only. If you hadn't agreed to shipping beforehand, you can refuse the sale on those grounds.

  • Thank you all for your responses.
Even most suspicious was when I sent him an email, he replied back with the same message and all the incorrect errors he had made.

I'll dispute through eBay and refuse sale — thank you :)

  • Definitely a SCAM!

Also try googling her "name" and full email ID (gb###ran461) to see if you get any more scamming hits.

BTW, what country did she want the item posted to?

The following are 2 similar Scams requesting AUS POST EXPRESS — in UPPERCASE so you don't get it wrong! — (I'm sure there would be many others requesting other shipping services)…
