ozbestsale and possible Belkin serious product safety issue

Hi

Im wondering if anyone has had dealings with Belkin or ozbestsale.com.au ?

I bought a Belkin modem from them a couple of weeks ago and when I plugged it in to use it for the first time it sizzled then smoke poured out of it and the underside plastic melted and singed my carpet.

So I emailed ozbestsale but got no reply..so I emailed them again..still no reply..

so I called belkin..got some operator who I could barely understand and who had difficulty understanding what I meant by 'it caught fire inside'..

Eventually belkin recorded my details and sent me an email requesting I return the modem in original packaging and it must be 'undamaged' … lol its melted..but whatever..

They gave me an option of waiting almost a month for replacement or they could send one quicker if they put a hold on my creditcard for the replacement cost until they received the broken one from me..

so I opted for the faster choice but they held $89 when I only paid $27 for it from ozbestsale. No way is this crap single port modem worth $89… dearest I could find was $59..

but I need my internet on for work so im stuck waiting for belkin to quickly ship my replacement.

And as for ozbestsale I still have not heard anything from them..

Poor service from both companies…

Especially considering the product safety issue..

btw Belkin were not at all interested that their faulty modem burned my carpet..I suppose I should have forseen it was going to catch fire and not put it on my carpet :/

I dont recommend belkin or ozbestsale

Pookie

  • Check your home/contents insurance if you have it, your carpet may covered in that.

    • excess would eat up any benefit.

  • What's the website? http://www.ozbestbargains.com.au doesn't exist (no site/no whois).

    • Site name amended :)

Yuan's phone number can be found via Google search.

That should give you some leads. ;)

Based from what you have said, ie. no communication from the seller, relatively cheaper price of $27 compared with $89 and that the product failed immediately, I believe unfortunately that you have most likely bought a cheap inferior knockoff of a "genuine" Belkin product.

Ebay especially has plenty of these fake imitation copies of genuine products for sale if you are not careful and know what to look out for.

Belkin is a fairly reputable company and all of the products that I have bought from them over the years have been of good quality.

I am pretty sure that when you send the defective product back to Belkin that they may confirm that it actually is a counterfeit item. If so, you may still have some recourse and get your money back from ozbestbargains if you paid for the item via Paypal.

  • Hi

Sorry guys my son told me the wrong name for the site..its actually called ozbestsale.com.au … ill amend my post.

I checked and my emails have been going to the right place at least :)

I thought it was a genuine clearance sale at $20 plus 7$ postage.

it looks the same as genuine item.

I bought it from the site and paid by paypal. So yes I will seek a refund from paypal….thanks guys for the info.

  • I'd be cancelling the new modem and holding fee and returning it if they've already sent it. Then buy a cheap single port on ebay, etc. and pay for express post. Or look at trusted retail sites like Warcom.

  • Yep… good idea.. cheers..
