Looking to buy an EZ Curl bar ( 8-9 Kilos one) with some standard weight plates.
Won't mind decent used ones as well. Please let me know if any suggestions.

Thanks !!

  • try this place if you're in Sydney. http://www.gymdirect.com.au/

Was the cheapest I found a few years back when I needed additional plates and a plate rack. Quality is OK, you can pay double for quality rubber coated plates but these were good enough for me.

    • Dah , I m in Melbourne . Thanks btw.

  • +1

Keep an eye out on gumtree.
I built a gym for about $250 consisting of:

    2 x Ezcurl bars,
    3 x Bench bars,
    6 x Dumbell bars
    decline ab bench
    Squat rack
    Bench
    Treasure Chest
250 kg or so of weights (including the holy grail of 6 x 10 kg plates)

I repainted a whole bunch of rusty 5kg plates with anti-rust and red paint (because it goes faster)for the dumbbell sets and they are good as new.

p.s I didnt hunt out extra bars etc they just came as a combination of a few sets. I probably bought three collections and sold off what I didnt want which brought the price down.

2nd edit: If anyone is interested the process of repainting old weights is pretty simple.

    1. Scrub weights with a wire brush and water (wear a mask as old weights are often lead based)
    2. Undercoat with a rust stop paint (I got mine from bunnings)
    3. Choose whichever colour you fancy and paint another layer. Just the two coats have lasted fine with a fair bit of wear and tear over the last 18 months

    • I'm personally trying to determine what colour to paint mine in order to make them lighter. Any suggestions?

      • sky blue, matches my eyes

    • Compact 10 kg plates are very valuable. You'll need them if you want to bench with dumbbells heavier than 40 kg.

  • Don't forget garage sales. You'll find the treasures of lost ambitions and men who have moved out of the family home.
