How good are the wok burners on barbecues?

Hi all,

How useful are the wok burners on barbecues? I want a BBQ but I want the wok ring as well.

Are they okay? Or pretty useless?

Tossing up between buying a BBQ like this

or a dedicated wok burner like this

Any help would be appreciated :)

  • I've never used mine, only time I might bother is if I was going to take the BBQ camping and wanted to cook something in a pot, but that isn't helpful for a non-portable BBQ.

  • Never used mine either, and I cook with a wok a fair bit. I suppose if I didn't have a gas stove I would use it, otherwise I don't see the point.

  • The main problem is wind.
If little breeze, and the burner area is sheltered, its fine.

You can take one off an old BBQ to use as a camp cooker. Most of the "camp stoves" are too wimpy.
