It is a good price, but comparing prices to PCCG is like comparing prices to Harvey Norman

Both stores are a total ripoff.

    • Where can you actually find an R9 290 with an aftermarket cooler at a lower price? Not the ones with the noisy blow dryer.

This one also comes with BF4 which is about $50.

      $589 @ MSY

      • No that is for R29WF3 which is not overclocked, MSY for the R29OC is like $575

Not sure where you got that info?

This is from their current price list PDF file.

          4G R9-290 Gigabyte-OC = $589
          4G R9-290 Gigabyte-WF3 = $609

What are you talking about? PCCG are more often than not as low as MSY. The only thing that sometimes kills the price is shipping, but that's standard fair with most shops.

        I wouldn't go that far.

MSY are usually top dog for local Aussie stock when it comes to 9 out of 10 products.

PCCG come somewhere in the Top 10-Top 20 sellers on StaticICE. I have to agree, as of last year they have been rather uncompetitive.

Just out of curiosity search GTX 780, R9 290, GTX 770 and R9 280 on StaticICE (and whatever products are on PCCG's frontpage specials) and see how many small, state-specific retailers are beating PCCG on price. Friggin' PLE Computers here in WA is kicking PCCG's ass for 780, 760 and 290 prices; that's not a good sign.

And for goodness sake, with amount of business they get why do they need to keep up those stupendous surcharges. Bank deposits take forever to clear with them too.

        • They are not perfect that's for sure. But having recently built a new PC I ended up ordering CPU and RAM from them. None of the local shops in WA could beat them on price including shipping (that or didn't have stock). I will always buy local when possible so the fact that I do order from them occasionally shows that they are competitive IMO but obviously it depends on the item.

Another thing that is great about them is the size of their inventory. They stock enough stuff to have more variability than PLE and NetPlus combined…

        • Well I agree that if you want to drive your dollar further you need to order from a few different retailers at least.

I have no hesitation buying non-local stock if it's better-priced; I check PCCG fairly regularly, I actually was about to order some USB hubs from them last month when Kogan turned out to be cheaper (PCCG's shipping costs are also getting a bit out of whack for smaller products).

          (that or didn't have stock)

I think that's just a WA problem really, but I agree. A lot of good prices to be found when you do spend the time to look, but not much stock and when you ask them if they know when more will arrive, they all respond as if you've asked them to estimate the end of humanity.

        • when you ask them if they know when more will arrive, they all respond as if you've asked them to estimate the end of humanity.

          Ha ha ha sooo true!!!

  • if this is windforce, people are experiencing problems with it.

    its also here http://www.mwave.com.au/product/gigabyte-amd-radeon-r9-290-w…

    • There are no problems…
