Need help in claiming back extended warranty - car dealer refuse to refund

Hi I recently purchase an extended warranty (3 years) on my car where my car initial 3 years warranty has come to an end.

Not long say two weeks into the new warranty my car had an accident and it was written off.

I call my car manufacturer and they refuse to refund the warranty they ask me to contact the insurance company and they insurance company refer me back to the car manufacturer. Any help in this would be appreciatted.

I don't think you will get anything back for your extended warranty purchase. It is just bad luck this happened. Unlike insurance, where you could refund the rest of the cover pro-rata, given you didn't claim on it, it is a warranty purchased for the future.

You can only plead on the good nature (yeah right) of the car dealership. Insurance companies won't cover this.

Why should you get a refund?

    What does the Warranty say?

    Is there a cooling-off period?

If you have an Insurance Claim over the Vehicle, can the warranty remaining be transferred to the new vehicle?

  • Sorry, but you're probably not entitled to a refund, given that you've already used it, ie, you're into the period that it covered. If your original warranty was still in place (but you'd already purchased) you'd probably have a strong case.

If you bought extended warranty on a television, for instance, then dropped and killed it, would you be asking for a refund on the extended warranty because you no longer needed it?

  • What brand and who's the underwriter? That makes a difference. Check your PDS, there should be terms outlined in there regarding your refund entitlements. I know they did with my Allianz one but that was from years ago.

  • Hi my extended warranty is with Swan Insurance

    • Can you post a link to the terms and conditions you signed up to?

  • You will be or may already have a new vehicle so ask them if they would transfer the warranty to that one? If not would they offer you a discount on another warranty.
Those things are rarely of any use anyway, just a good income booster for the car sales yard.
