iPad Air 128GB at Officeworks

Just noticed Officeworks have Ipad Airs 128gb (Wifi+cellular) for $998.

Has anyone come across any companies selling these under $998 (inclusive of delivery)? Would like to use OW's pricebeat guarantee to have another 5% knock off the price.

  • Officeworks staff are real tightasses when it comes to price-matching anything more than $20 of their own price. I've heard the full range of excuses.
*their store has a different return policy (all stores have different return polices)
*their store isn't a competitor (in regards to MSY)
*that store is overseas (yeah, but I've factored in shipping and it's still cheaper)
*the model number is different (when its the same item but different stores use different item numbers)

    • your 2, 3 & 4 "excuses" are completely valid excuses in my eyes lol. why would an Australian store compete against an online or international store? MSY is not a direct competitor to them & different stores cannot use different model numbers.

Its not the store who decides what each model is listed as and/or called. Manufacturers release products with unique model numbers to differentiate between different products which may look completely identical.
eg. I sell gas log fires. we have 2 heaters that look the same. one is the FITZIB-SMEXB and the other is FITZIB-PMEXB. the second is $700 more than the other, but it uses a balanced flue and is more efficient.

why would an Australian store compete against an online or international store?

If that's the case then, they should not use the phrase 'lowest price guarantee'.

That is fair and reasonable rather than having a variety of caveats to suit their own business model.

        • but online stores have but 1 (probable) employee with no leasing facility which means no utility bills, land, etc. to pay for. they are totally different. as for International sellers, everybody knows we pay a premium for imports, buying it internationally will keep our in-store prices high.

but yes, i totally agree with what you are saying. I;'m just trying to state that lakers1222 made it out to be that he was being conned when asking for price matches.

'Lowest Price Guarantee' is probably a trademark. just like how Maccas have '100% Australian Beef' inside their Big Mac boxes. its just a trademark, nothing literal about the words if you look into it.

  • Just curious but for that price what're you trying to do exactly? For $1000 I would be more invested in an ultrabook (the Air is quite nice, or a Surface Pro maybe) than an iPad.

(Not criticising, just curious.. tablets to me should be a ~$550ish purchase)

  • Im in the market for an iPad Air. The Ultrabook doesn't really interest me, I already have a Macbook pro, so looking for something without a keyboard. Plus I have an iMac and have had a lot of compatibility issues when I've previously connected non-apple products.
