Right… Well, Goggle Play tells me it's a "Free Sample" but then (while showing me a Zero cost (in AU dollars, no less), it -insists- that I enter a credit or debit card or that I "Redeem" uskng a code (that I don't have)…

-before- I can continue to the eBook, which is to be a "Free Sample."

Goggle is -not- doing no evil here…!

Freebies work like that so you "buy" the item so when it goes back up to full price, and you want to download it to another device, the system knows that you've already "bought" it.
It's also (probably) a sneaky way to get your details into the system so that you are more likely to impulse buy in the future.
You wont be charged anything, whether it's on your credit card of your Play Credit.

    • It's the same with itunes.

    • 4 negs for the comment so far. Seems there are a few who either love Google, have shares, or don't know about Google's propensity for collecting and storing all manner of data about you without your authority.

You have to give all that information up to get a Google Account to download Free apps anyway..
If you're concerned with the way they do business, then feel free to not give them that information, but that argument is completely irrelevant in the context of this IVI's issues (clearly he/she already has a Google Account).

        • I suggest you do a bit more reading about Google practices Scuba.

        • As I stated, I'm aware of Google's tracking capabilities and actions, but I'm unaware of any issues with their handling of Credit Card information, which is the only relevant issue here.

I remember reading on the inside of a candy wrapper once that Google were specifically out to get you.

      • Can't wait till there is a bargain for tin foil hats here.

    Downloaded, read, binned.
    I wouldn't bother.
    It's an ad.

52 Excerpts from their books - about 50 words & a photo on each location.

  • How do I undo my +1 ?
