Nexus 5 and Optus 4G help

Hi there, I just ported to Optus Prepaid Social on my Nexus 5 and can't get 4G.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Phone is 4G compatible.
Plan is 45 Compatible.
In a 4G coverage area.

Talked to tech support etc to no avail.

  • Where did you buy the Nexus 5? Which version did you get? D820 or D821?

  • Bought if off Google Play Australia.

  • Do you have another 4G device to test?

    • Nope. It worked perfectly on Telstra 4G though.

      • So, the issue here is Optus 4G, not Nexus 5.

  • Don't know where you live, but maybe you only have 4G+ available on the 2300mhz band? Could that be the issue?

    • Where would I check that?
Melbourne suburbs close to the CBD

  • Did you check if they have applied 4g codes to your service

    • They need to activate 4G for you?

      • Yeah they don't seem to it by default

  • and also check your APN settings

  • One of the good things about being with one of the big 3 telcos is that you should be able to walk into one of their retail stores and ask them to help fix it.
I had a problem with the data settings with my Nex5 and a guy in a T store advised me how to fix it. I told him I was not a Telstra customer and he said, "That's OK, we are not that busy and that's what you get for buying a cool phone"!

  • Thanks all of you!!

(It's definitely a Optus fault and I'll try get this solved for future references!)
