Surface Pro or ASUS T100?

Hey all,

Surface Pro's are about $679 at the moment (http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/tablets/mic…)

ASUS T100's seem to be around $500…

What I'm wondering, is if the surface pro would be worth the extra $180? I'm not doing anything too fancy on them.

I know the battery isn't as good as with the surface pro 2, but that doesn't really concern me that much…

Thanks for the help :)

I think the extra $180 would be worth it if this is intended to be your main computing device. Do you want a netbook in the form of a tablet or an ultrabook in the form of a tablet?

  • ANOTHER SHAMELESS PLUG:
    I reviewed the SP2 yesterday: http://lmjpro.com/

As others said in the other post, the surface pro (2) does feel much more durable. Probably because it is a little heavier though, but it does seem well constructed.

    • Where did you buy it from?

      • M$ store online

    • Isn't the SP2 about $300 more though?

      • Paid $1016 for it after 15% discount. 128gb model.

        • what? 15% discount? how?

        • Student Discount via his fiance

    • The review needs a couple of corrections:
      1) "There was no way that I would go with the touch cover…" leads to, "So I grabbed the touch cover…"
      2) There is no such thing as a "Surface Pro 2 Type Cover". It's a "Type Cover 2" (and fits ANY model of Surface device).

Done, thanks again for your feedback. I need to put some more time into planning posts and proof reading. But, this is how we learn.

    • LOL
"This is great for surfing in bed, but its hard to use the touch pad in bed because its floppy, making it hard to get a decent position"

So you can't use your floppy in bed to get a decent position
      Who would have thought :)

  • its 698 http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/tablet/microsoft/surface-… with the touch cover now.

im in the same boat and going to get the pro now. the asus i read and played with it and seem to be a bit tacky or similar the asus transformer with the dock but running win8

  • The T100 aint bad for the price, got one for my wife. Its definitely cheap looking and handling but comes with most of the features you'd expect and want with this sort of device (Basic MS Office, keyboard, hdmi out, usb3) and it performs really well.

And you've got to give ASUS some credit here for cutting through the BS that has been rife with Hybrid products. MS are guilty with the SP and its "add ons", vote with your $$$ I say, and the ASUS wont hurt at all if you are looking something to knock about, and could prob source for less than $500.

  • I've got the surface pro and it has pretty much replaced all my other devices. Just a note on the battery, I didn't think I'd mind that much either but now I wish I'd spent a bit more and got the sp2. 4 hours is pretty terrible

  • Looking at the jb link the surface pro does not come with a keyboard so you would be up for an extra $120ish. I am using an Asus H100 and love it. These devices are not laptop replacements they are more like a net book.

    • Asus H100? Which one is that? Or did you mean T100?

  • Slightly off topic, but any views from people here on using the surface on your lap? 90% of the time I sit on a sofa using my laptop (and a lot of that time with my legs crossed), and the kickstand doesn't look like it would be suitable for this! Only thing putting me off buying a Surface. It's the only tablet that is around the specs I want for a price I am willing to pay.

I find it really hard/impossible to use on my lap sitting down, also trying to use the keyboard like that kills my wrist

  • I got the Asus t100 for $404 ,can't fault it for the price. Win8 good battery, zippy performance. Cant see the value in paying upwards of $300 for an essentially similar device.

    • Can you please post your receipt? So I can get OW to price match :)

  • If you're going to use it as an entertainment tablet (web, casual games, book reader), go for the T100. If it's going to be a work horse, get the Surface.
