Car servicing deal

Hi all,

I need some advice regarding this offer - http://www.groupon.com.au/deals/canberra/mit-automotive/7180…

I know some of these offers are scam and they try to get you to spend more. But I called up the shop and had a chat. They said that they will conduct servicing no matter what. If some extra repairs needed, they'll discuss that with me after the servicing.

Should I take the offer?

Keywords in the fineprint is "• Parts and fluids not included" they will sting you like no tomorrow there. Be sure to get a full quote before they commence work. On top of this, they will try to tell you that an array of work needs to be done from changing wiper blades, spark plugs, air filter whatever to get more margin off consumables off you. It will all add up to a regular service from a reputable service center.

I would just seek a reputable mechanic or mobile mechanic from word of mouth or online and they should be able to take care of you better than these guys trying to make a quick buck off the ill informed. Some places will allow you to source your own oil/filter if you ask them nicely and just pay for the labor.

  • The man replying to my queries told me I don't need to spend a penny more, if I don't need synthetic oil. Bit confused what to do…

    • What is the most important, a decent service or a cheap one?

I got a groupon deal with beaurepaire for a dirt cheap 4 wheel alignment a while back. I expected the worst with that but instead received the best service ever (at Kotara NSW 2289 fyi). Sometimes you can be lucky.

What kind of car is it? Nothing exotic?
With most run of the mill cars these days it is just oil and filter so should never be the silly prices you see a lot of people paying.

      • Mine is a 1997 Mitsubishi Magna. Recently bought, so thinking about a minor servicing. It has 200k km on odometer. Should I take the offer?

  • Is this the deal… some comments on it here…

I clicked on the link and a pop up happened that I couldn't close without me giving them my email address.
THAT JUST SCREAMS SCAM right from the start

    • Its not scam, its Groupon default :) you can close the pop-up.

  • It doesnt scream scam at all.
Maybe you have a shite system or cant manage to click the little x in the corner of the box to close it.
I had no such issue on my end

I did one of these in Brisbane, mad to use anything else , as others have said filter and oil is what most need and that is almost as much as what the total cost is.

As for someones comment on cheap service Vs expensive service the difference is the expensive service charges you a lot more/hour and a bigger skim on material.
They dont use gold plated filters or oil with gold flecks and they don't have pole dancers in the corner for your entertainment.

  • So guys, what its gonna be? Should I give the offer a try?

  • Today I called again and here are the parts & fluids they will supply -

Valvoline engine oil, Ryco oil filter, Topcat or Repco wiper blade, Conventional spark plugs (Premium spark plugs - 16$ each)

I researched on Google for the above mentioned products and they seem to be good quality ones, not the best of course.
