Tablet & Camera

Hi everyone, hope you are enjoying your weekend so far!

Despite my protest, I am going to get a Tablet.

Had been reading for a while, here, Whirlpool, and other sites. The more I read the more indecisive I become, hence this post.

I am an Android person, now own a Nexus 4, previously HTC. Sony.
Hubby and son has iPhone and iPad.
I also have a 2-year old MacBook Air which only use for long distance travel, which is about once a year.

Other gadgets we own:

  • Sony SLR (is playing up, might need a new one.)
  • LG Smart TV (which I can hook up with my N4)

Now we are embarking on a 4-week holiday to the USA, thought I should get a Tablet. Easy to travel, light weight, easy to post photos, etc etc.
Budget is no more than $500.

I will use it mainly for browsing (Tripadvisor, Maps, restaurants, and OzB of course), photo upload, emails. Hope the screen is not too glaring b'cos will be using it a lot during the day and under the sun.
I dont do games or video.

With all these, it seems Nexus/google would be the way to go. But I am concerned with the memory. It doesnt concern me at the moment that much, but I am afraid of the unknown. If someone can tell me that will not be an issue, I might go for it.
Also read about Lenovo, Windows tablet, Samsung etc.. Ah choices choices.

To complicate matters, I can buy in USA, together with a new/compatible camera…

With that my friends, please drop me a line to point me to the right direction.

Thanx heaps.

  • Depending on the size required, I would recommend the xperia tablet z for 10" or the Lenovo miix for 8" or nexus 7. Alternatively why not go the ipad mini?

  • +1

Got for an android 10" with a memory card reader built-in (micro SD or SD). I use a microSD with SD adaptor on my camera and view/back up straight to my tablet….so convenient
Personally I would not go for apple as found it hard to organise/select photos especially for backup… and additional adaptor

  • Tricky decision - Some things that might help

    iPad mini retina 32gb
Has FaceTime, handy for FaceTime with ur hubby and son
Apple TV compatible for beaming photos to tv wirelessly if u want to do that
More top shelf quality apps than android
But not so good for uploading photos - need to buy a camera connection kit ($39) and a lightning to 30 pin adaptor ($39) then contend with not being able to use your own folder structures to group photos together.

    Nexus 7 32gb
    Much cheaper than iPad
16:9 screen ratio perfect for movies
    You're familiar with nexus already
As m2000 pointed out - all you need is a memory card reader.

All that being said - I own the iPad because I have a mac and iphone and I like the interconnectivity and simplicity. But for what you're describing a nexus 7 or larger tablet might work a treat.

    • Thanx Tempo.
Hubby will be will me most time, so no need Tempo.
Son rathe not talk to me unless absolutely necessary, LOL.
One thing I cannot stand Apple is their territorial stuff, too hard to share etc.

N7 is looking good but pity Google Devices is out-of-stock.

Actually seeing that I only make a few calls a week, maybe I should get the biggest mobile as possible, rather than carrying one mobile and one table on the USA trip. What do you all think??
